Like In Three Strikes — We're Out Whew! It makes a person feel better to get some things off the chest. This writer is ready to retire to the linotypes and the press for the summer, and wants to thank you for your patience. Me hope you have a happy vacation if you haven’t gone yet, or had a happy one, if you have «one. In fact, we hope you have a happy life. It seems a shame that a lot of people go through life unhappy, particularly Americans who are blessed with so many of the good things. It’s pitiful the way some folks are always on the defensive—looking for the bad, instead of the good. Some wise person has said that life is what you make it, and it certainly holds true. The people who look for the bad, the sordid, and the unhappy things usually find them. The ones who try to see the good and beautiful dolhe same. Another person we once heard likened life to a beautiful rose. It depends on how you go about getting it as to how you feel. If you try to grab a rose in a rough, unmannerly way, all you get is a handful of thorns. If you take the right steps, use a Utile appreciation, and try to enjoy it, you can have a beautiful remembrance. We are each given an allotted number of golden moments—the time of life. It is amazing the way some of us waste these worrying and gripping about what should be or could be, instead of working for and appreciating all the wonderful things that are and will be. If we could pass on any bit of philosophy, it would be from a fine Hoosier named Riley. He once wrote this bit of advice: “Let us fold away our fears, And put by our foolish tears, And through all the coming years, Just be glad.” j Which says it a lot better than we could. So, we hope you have a good time in what ever endeavors you undertake. We’re all going to be around for a while together, and we might as well make the best of it. It doesn’t take any more effort to be nice than it does to be antagonistic. And if we don’t happen to pass on the street between now and next summer, have a Merry Christmas ,gnd a Happy New Year.

Long Rocket Shot Made By Russians MOSCOW (UPD - The Soviet rocket fired into the Pacific missed the United States’ distance mark, but Russian scientists nevertheless were pleased today with the missile’s performance. The rocket, launched Tuesday from a missile pad in Russia, soared 8,078 miles to a target in the Pacific Ocean about 1,000 miles southwest of Hawaii. It was the longest Russian shot to date, breaking a mark set last January when a rocket was fired

7,000 miles into the Pacific. I But Tuesday’s firing still fell nearly 1,000 mites short of a super Atlas rocket which traveled 9.000 miles from Cape Canaveral, Fla., to a target area just south of the Indian Ocean earlier this yearSoviet scientists had emphasized however, that the rocket tests scheduled for this month would not attempt to break disance records, but instead would be designed to collect scientific information.
