Needed — Replacements In the |Muit few ) aan, Decatur has had the misfortune to kwe some outstanding men who atdl had much to contribute to thia community. They were not young men, but thoroughly mature, though thoy still had many years of service to Decatur left when they died. Their maturity, regardless of their years, was shown by the decisions they made, and the suggestions they made. These men were not geniuses. They were not more brilliant than a lot of other citizens of Decatur. And in this lies their rarity. The contributions they made came from good, hard, serious thinking. Thinking they were chan* neling to provide for the betterment of a whole community. It was not selfish thought, it was for the good of Decatur. Many men can think of the good of a town when he can see how it will profit him. Few are big enough to contribute their time and work for the good of others. We all have hopes for the growth of Decatur and the whole of Adams county. If those hopes are to be fulfilled quickly, replacements for these men are needed. Replacements who will follow the pattern already there and just contribute a little of themselves to the betterment of others. It can be guaranteed that most of the people you help will not appreciate the help. Some of them will even take every opportunity to throw mud—really because they are too lazy and selfish to help you, even though they know they should. The rewards will have to come from the satisfaction of the achievements you see fulfilled. Yet, from the heritage left by those unselfish contributors, we know that this satisfacion is there, and _ worth all the time and thought. -* r; t
