Harold J. Bond. 3-2522. WEIGHT WATCHERS ATTEND CONVENTION Over 3.000 women from all over the United States attended the National Tops convention which was held in the Hotel Statler Hilton, Detroit. Mich. Attending from Decatur were Mrs. Mildred Smith. Mrs. Bea Gray, Mrs. Jerry Sprunger and Mrs. Leona Baker of the Decatur Weight Watchers. In addition to the convention sessions they enjoyed a sight seeing trip into Canada. The 1961 convention will be held in Minneapolis. Minn. MRS LLOTD BOWMAN IS HOSTESS TO CLUB Mrs. Lloyd Bowman served as hostess .Tuesday afternoon to the Root Township Home Demonstration club. Mrs. Nevin Miller, club president, was in charge of the meeting, which was opened with the club creed. Devotions were delivered by Mrs. Royal Friend. Mrs. Adolph Weidler gave the history of the song of the month, “There's Music in the Air.” A health and safety lesson was given by Miss Bernice Magley, and Mrs. Sheiman Kunkel presented a citizenship lesson on safe driving and driver’s training. Mrs. Lloyd Bowman read the secretary's report and roll call, after which an interesting lesson on investments, inheritance, and transfer of property was given by Mrs. Omer Merriman. The meeting will be preceded by a dinner at 6 p.m. at the Zion Evangelical and Reformed church. At the meeting two members of the Decatur chapter, Mrs. J. T. Myers and Mrs. Geo. Squiers, will receive the award of gold, having been initiated into the order in 1910.
The Order of Eastern Star will 'hold a meeting Thursday at 7:30 p.nli. at the Masonic Hall. i The Bobo Community Vacation Bible school program will be held Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m., at the Calvary Evangelical United Brethren church. The hand work displays will be in the basement of the church, and can be seen at 6:45 p.m. until the time of the program. The public is invited to attend. The St. Mary’s Sodbusters meeting which was to be held Thursday has been postponed to Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Pleasant Mills school. The American Legion Auxiliary. Decatur, was picked up last night by deputy sheriff Meyers and city policeman Hill on a charge of assault and battery. An affidavit for Anderson's arrest was signed by Melvin E Wolfe, whom Anderson allegedly beat up when Wolfe asked him to move out of the house trailer that Wolfe owned. U.S. Aircraft Carrier And Ship Collide NORFOLK, Va. <UPI> — The super aircraft carrier Saratoga sideswiped the German merchant ship Bernd Lzonhardt 60 miles off the Virginia Capes shortly after midnight today. Fire broke out on the Saratoga and the merchantman sustained considerable superstructure damage but no injuries were reported immediately. The Saratoga, equal in length to 80 stories and carrying a crew of 3,'500, sustained damage to its upper hull and a catwalk. The fire, which resulted from a broken fuel line, was quickly put out. The seas were calm and the weatfer clear tirecollision r TOe Navy said the Saratoga was proceeding to Norfolk for repairs and the German ship had requested permission to proceed to Baltimore. The Leonhardt lost radio contact after the collision and had to flash signals to the Navy destroyer Stribling which relayed them to the Norfolk. The 6,135ton German Vessel, whose home port is Hamburg, left Rotterdam May 3 and was en route to Puerto Ordaz. / ?

Report Jerry Miller Somewhat Improved Jerry Miller, injured critically in an accident two weeks ago. is doing better, according to a report received today. His condition is listed as the same as before, but he feels better and is starting to eat. He was supposed to have been moved to Chicago Saturday, but doctors decided he wasn’t ready to be moved yet. Younq Driver Fined On Pair Os Charges Keith Lamar Brandt. 20. RR 2, who was arrested twice Sunday, once for speeding and once for reckless driving, appeared in court today, in a special session held bv Judge Richard Sullivan Brandt was fined $19.75 for speeding and $68.75 for reckless driving. He paid the costs which amounted to $39.50 but he couldn’t pay the fines. Instead of sending Brandt to the Adams county jail, Judge Sullivan suspended the fines in order tn permit Brandt to leave ofr the army. Brandt was due to leave to permit Brandt to leave for the aYmy, so the judge suspended his fines in order that Brandt migh* go.

Three Fined Here On Traffic Charges Roy Allen Litchfield. 20, 128 S Fourth street, who was arrested April 17 at 11:05 p.m. for an improper turn at the junction of 27 and 224 in Decatur, appeared in court Tuesday and paid a fine of $lB 75. Ralph V. Prenger. 27, route 1. Maria Stein, Ohio, paid a fine of $18.75 in J P court Tuesday. Prenger was arrestrti at 10:50 a.m. April 29. on U.S. 33 in Pleasant Mills for driving 50 miles an hour in a 30-mile zone. Larry D. Bittner, 20, route 2. was arrested May 1 at 4:10 p.m. on U.S. 27 and junction of Winchester Road for improper passing. Bittner appeared in court Tuesday and paid a total fine of $18.75.
