Q My son is 15 years old and plans to get a job this summer. Must he have a social security number even if he is not of age? Do they deduct from his pay since he is so young? If he needs one, docs he have to bring |us birth certificate with him? i A. Any person, regardless of age.: must have a social security. num- 1 ber if he is working on a job that is considered covered employment. There is no age limit and it makes no difference if he works several hours or several days. The employer must deduct the tax and report it every three months. Your son can call at any social security office or a blank can be mailed to him. It is not necessary that he furnish his birth certificate. 3. Q. What amount of wages must a farm worker be paid to receive a quarter of coverage? A. Farm workers earn a quarter of coverage for every SIOO in cash wages they are paid in a calendar year. With agricultural wages of S4OO, four quarters of coverage may be credited for a calendar year. 4. Q. I am entitled to $33 on my own social security record and I also receive $lB on my husband’s record, making a total of ssl. My husband expects to go back into business next year and will earn too much to get benefits. How will this affect my payments? A. You cannot receive a payment on your husband’s social security record for any month in which he is not eligible to receive his check. You will continue to receive the amount on your own social security record, unless you go to work and earn more than SI2OO a year. 5. Q. I had to quit farming in August 1959 because of my disability. I have paid social security for the fifth time when 1 filed my income tax return in 1960. When should I contact the social security office about my disability protection? , A. You should contact your social security office immediately. We realize that many disabled farmers will not have paid for the required years of coverage until they have filed their 1959 income tax return. However, they should all visit their local social security office as soon as possible.
