Adams county, through the noil comiervation dhtrict, county extension department, and county council, have taken part in the 16-county program Conner* al ion council, have taken part in the 16county program during the past four yean*. A total of 256 boys, including several from Adamn county, attended the annual summer program. During the next few weeks boys from each area of the county, interested in soil conservation, wildlife, or forestry, will be chosen to attend. Those interested should contact any member of the Adams county conservation council Boys from 12 to 15 years of age are eligible. Located in the heart of the Indiana lake district in LaGrange county, Camp Limberlost is maintained by Purdue University. A session in soils is taught in order to develop an appreciation of soil science. To determine how the different soils were derived, field studies are made of upland, terrace, alluvial and organic soils, soil texture is studied, internal drainage is observed, various properties of the soil are demonstrated, and the geology of the area is viewed and discussed. We must understand the problems of soil science to conserve our natural resources. Wildlife, as important to the farmer as to the sportsman, is observed in its natural habitat through field trips. Forestry, important economically as well as an erosion preventative, will be studied, and trees will be identified by the young naturalists. As the population of the United States explodes, so to speak, so must our interest in conservation. We must keep our water clean and usable, purify the air, restore nature’s balance of chemicals in the soil, and replenish the supply of timber. This can be done only when the private owners of America’s millions of farms understand the principles involved. A summer camp, with swimming and recreation, and outdoor study of a number of serious subjects made fun, is a wonderful way of training the mind and body. So eight lucky boys will get the chance of really enjoying themselves at a week-long summer camp, and at the same time adding to their background stores of information which will make them valuable citizens in the future.

De Gaulle Speaks To British Parliament LONDON (UPD — President Charles de Gaulle told the combined houses of British Parliament today France would be "happy” to quit developing atomic bombs as soon as the other world powers destroyed their nuclear weapons “Peace can only be attained if the general fear of sudden annihilation is first removed,” the visiting French leader told a rare joint session of the House of Lord* and Commons. Usually only 'the Queen speaks to a joint parliamentary session. By implication, de Gaulle rejected the attacks on West Germany made by Soviet Premier Nikitia Khrushchev during his recent tour of France. “The peace France and Britain are striving to build should not widen divisions or poison wounds . . including those suffered by the Germans, who were yesterday our enemies but today are a vital part of the West and our common ally.” he said. A fanfare of trumpets greeted de Gaulle as he strode into the ancient Great Hall of Westminster adjoining the houses of Parliament. Elks Plan Square Dance On Saturday The Decatur Elks lodge will hold its second monthly square dance from 10 p.m. until midnight Saturday. The previous dance was well received by members and the lodge’s entertainment committee hopes that members and invited guests will attend in larger numbers this week. Mr. and Mrs. Mel Kreps will be present to assist any beginners in square dancing. Other entertainment from 9 to 10 o’clock, will precede the dance.
