1960 Busiest Year To Frank McKinney ft? EUGKNK J. ( ADOt I’bMM! ProM M»huU»ml INDIANAPOLIS <UPI’ — I*', probably will be the busteit year of all for former Democratic Nattonai Chairman Frank I Me Kinney, who la board chairman of the American Fletcher National Bank of Indianapolla. McK innry hat impi>rt>nt lnt*r I 1 esta in both the Democratic and Republican parties of Indiana As a lieutenant of former President Truman for many years. McKinney Is occupied with boosting the presidential bid of Truman * fellow Democrat Missourian, i Sen W Stulrt Symington, along with Frank M McHale. IndianI spoils, former Democratic nstion--1 al committeeman. This Symington bid is being challenged seriously in Indiana by Sen John F. Kennedy <Di Mass. I. whose Hoosier managers •re State Sen. Marshall Kizer. Plymouth, and Albert Deluse, 11th District chairman. Beiigtons Mixed Curiously, Symington is a Protestant and McKinney and McHale are both Roman Catholics, and Kennedy is a Catholic and Kiser and Deluse are both Protestants Kennedy is almost sure to capture Indiana's Democratic primary. which binds delegates on the first ballot only. It will be the tough job of McKinney and McHale to try to scoop up Symington votes from Hoosier delegates on later ballots, if there are any. The two Franks likewise. are sponsoring the front runner to the Democratic gubernatorial struggle. State Sen. Matthew E. Welsh, Vincennes, and that is no small undertaking in the face of recently - developed strident opposition from the two other formidable aspirants, Secretary of State John R Walsh, Anderson, and State Auditor Albert Steinwedel, Seymour. Walsh and Steinwedel have un- , earthed a rather important issue against Welsh, the school reorganization bill which is exceedingly unpopular with township trustees and many county officials. This has become one of the hottest potatoes in many years. Interested in Treasurer McKinney, as a banker of huge stature, in only' slightly lesser degree, is interested in the office of state treasurer, which to thq layman is a minor office. The Treasurer has control of the deposit of state funds in banks, both in dormant funds, which draw oqe per cent interest, and in active funds, on which no interest is paid. The total of this latter category runs from 20 million dollars to 90 million dollars a year, and McKinney's bank has been favored as a depository in the past year. State Treasurer Jack Haymaker, a Democrat, is close to McKinney, but he has been unable to be on the job for any substantial period because of illness. There is a question whether he will run again. William Fortune, former Republican state treasurer, who switched to the Democratic party, has been mentioned for the post Former State Sen. Clyde Black. Logansport, is the only important Republican candidate for treasurer. Black, a former minister, now operates a motel near Logansport. McKinney aides now filling important posts in the Re P u^ llc n a , n administration of Governor ley include Ira Haymaker, FranKlin, former Democratic _ s^* e chairman, member of the Service Commission, Wiliam Storen, Indianapolis, member of the Alcoholic Beverage Commission, and Robert Kirby, Indianapolis, member of the Toll Road Com mission. Frank Minis, former GOP state treasurer, is employed in public relations by McKinney’s bank.

Q —ls it possible for both parents to receive social security payments upon the death of a child who was supporting them? Would they receive a payment in addition to the social security they are now receiving? A—ls both parents of a deceased wage earner were dependent upon the wage earner for at least half of their support, they may each receive survivors benefits. it they have attained retirement age. However, if they are entitled to both retirement benefits and paernts benefits, they will receive only the higher amount of the two benefits. 2. Q. My employer insists that I use the first name as shown on my social security card. I never use it even though it is my legal name. No one knoss me by that name. Is it necessary that I use it? . A—Your employer must report • your earnings to social security by the name and number as shown on your card. If he does not. you may not receive credit for your earnings. If you wish to change that name, visit your social security office. 3 Q—l have been drawing social security for several years. I am 75 years old and earn a small salary each week My boss still takes the social security tax from mv pay. Is this right? A—As long as you are paid a salary in work covered by social security, or , would have self employment income of over S4OO. the social security tax must be paid 4 Q—l have brought up my grandchild as my own child. When I get my social security may I draw payments for this child also? A—A child is entitled on your social security account only if he is your natural child, step child or legally adopted child. There can be no benefits for a grandchild unless he is adopted. 5 q— i am planning to file for disability benefits. I have worked under social security r s a farmt. for five years counting 1959. How disabled must I be to be eligible? A-ir-You must have a very severe disability. You must establish by medical evidence that your disability not only is very severe, but that it is also expected to last indefinitely or result in your death. If your disability is slight or only temporary in nature, you. CQuld_flot qualify for disability proetction. On the other hand, if your disability is so severe, for example—that you can no longer do your farm work or do any other kind of work you should inquire at the social security office immediately. 6 Q—ls I haye social security credit for my earnings year after year, will I get the highest benefit amdunt payable under the social security law? A—Not necessarily. The amount
lof your monthly benefit will de- ! pend upon the amount of earnings I i reported to your social security account. Can I get disability payments because of my injury? 1 have to hire help on the 1 farm now because there are so ■ niany jobs I cannot do. A—No, you would not be consid- ; ered sufficiently disabled to qualify for payments. You have a handicap which will require adjustment but will not prevent you from working in any substantially gainful work. Fail Os Agreement On Von Conrad Trial LAFAYETTE, Ind.
