Farmer's Spending Income Decreases WASHINGTON 'UPD — The Agriculture Department said today the average fanner a spending income last year was $2,364. down 14*4 per cent from 1958. The rate of decrease in the realized net income per farm compared with the 16 per cent drop in the total farm Income last year—down to 11 billion dollars from the $13,100,000,000 in 1958 Realized net Income or spending income of a farmer is the money left over after he has sold his crop and paid all production expenses. It docs not include arty adjustment for the value of changes in crop and livestock inventories. A department publication. "The Farm Income Situation.” .«aid 1959 spending income of farmers per farm was down in all but seven states, reflecting lower cash receipts and higher production expenditures. Cash receipts were down m 32 states. Hogs, eggs, wheat, broilers, and soybeans showed the sharpest declines. Production expenses were up in 43 states, with I depreciation charges, cost of repairs and operation, purchased livestock, fertilizer and lime, hired labor, and taxes accounting for most of the increase. In a further breakdown of the previous announced 1959 net farm income of 11 billion dollars, the department released estimates of farm income from both farm and non-farm sources, and net and gross incomes per farm. The average per capita incoJT>c of the farm population from farming in 1959 was $643. down from $748 in 1958. The per capital income of farmers from non-farm sources was $317, up from s2tb a year earlier. The total farm income of $960 per capita compared with the non-farm population income of $2,202 per capita The per capita income of an inc population -both farm and nonfarm—wSs $2,054. The realized net income of $2 364 per farm throughout the United States was the amount left over after average production expenses of $5,613 were sti - tracted from average. gross farm income of $7,977.
