DBCATUR DAILY DEMOCRAT rv« DOtiK'KAT CO . Decatur, with its first troop founded just three years after the organization was founded in this country, can well be proud of the thmtmmh of boys who have come up through the nthKs of scouting, dedicalwl to a creed of patriotism, reverence, and helpfulness. Two Boy Scouts from every troop in Decatur, and frem the Explorer post, will be asked to take part in the X /raising of the flag Monday morning at the court house. Two other scouts from each troop and post will take part in the lowering of the flag Friday evening at 4 p.m. During the week numerous organizations will honor the Boy Scouts, and much will be said and written about them. A Scouting offers adventure, training, and outdoor fun to the young man from eight to eighteen years of age, it has helped train 33 million Americans in 50 years. Surely if scouting has helped this many boys, we should stand up and salute it, and offer our support in hopes that the next 50 years will be as productive and effective for America as the last 50. « Bowlers Fight Polio n Starting last night, all bowlers aUMies Recreation, G.E., and the Emick Bowl in Berne have a wonderful opportunity to help the National Foundation fight polio, arthritis, and birth defects. . ' For the next four weeks, every time the Decatur , Bowling Association members bowl, they will be asked to give an extra dollar. Os this dollar, 67 cents will go to the polio drive as a contribution. The h irst State Bank of Decatur will add 17 cents to the remaining 33 cents, for the association, which will present a wonderful trophy to the winner, plus cash prizes to the top bowlers. Bob Dedolph, chairman of. the affair, and Gary * Schultz, president of the city bowling association, all hope that the bowlers will do their part to help in the drive. Last year 400 members raised more than S2OO for the March of Dimes drive. Every fami lyin Decatur, as well as the rest of the world, will benefit from contributions to the National Foundation. There is not a family that has not, somewhere, been affected, or will be affected by the three large groups of crippling diseases. Bowling has grown tremendously in the past few years as a leisure-time sport, and its enthusiasts are among the most generous when it comes to helping worthy causes. Decatur tips its hat to the bowlers of the Decatur Bowling Association, who are helping in the great drive to eliminate suffering from polio, birth de- , sects, and arthritis.
