YELLOW JACKET* Tlw Jackets are coming. After nearly frightening a big Angola team out of the NEIC title consideration Friday night at the Hornets' nest. Decatur bowed. 54-48 Angola. Bluffton and Concordia are now tied on the league lead But. the Jackets did not aeem awed by the Impressive Angola record of 11-4 ' before last night's bell game) and stunned the Horl anta With a terrific display of I team work tn the first half, taking 1 a f<Hir-point lead into the canvas dressing room at half time Hometa Altered Vp Angola committed 12 first half ball handling miscues as a fired up Jacket ball club moved the bail with the sharpness of a class A bull team. The Hornets pressed to open the second half and Decatur's | speed faded. While keeping the ‘ same semblance of teamwork, the I passing became slower and shoddier. Dribbling came to the fore, and the taller Hornets pulled to a tie with 3:30 remaining in the third quarter at 31-31. Decaturs rebounding against the taller Hornets was quite respectable. And a much needed surprise was the fireman's work done by big Bob Frauhiger. •'Frog" came in for the foul-rid-I den Jim Gay after Rtidy Kleinknight got into the same fix. and took control of the backboards. With a little luck on his shots, he might have pulled the contest out. Each team stole the ball three times, while Decatur made only three ball handling errors to a toItal of 14 for the Hornets. Decatur I netted 16 of 48 from the field for 33 per cent, while coach John Hammel's team outscored the Jackets with 17 of 69 tries for a less respectable 24 per cent. Screen and Black Most impressive for the Jackets during the entire contest was the screening and blocking around the keyhole. When this was working, the Jackets looked like a world beater. When they failed to pick off the Hornets, shots were hurried, and often blocked by the high flying Hornets, Jeff Heier or Jerry Hoffman. The Jackets entertain Huntington's tough Vikings tonight with the second team starting at 7 and the varsity at 8:15 p.m. Decatur FG FT TP Cowan . 6 5 17 Reidenbach 0 0 0 Cay 1 0 2 Eichenauer 2 9 13 Bollenbacher — 5 2 12 Grabill 2 0 4 Frauhiger —... 0 0 0 Kleinknight 0 0 0 Totals 16 16 48 Angola FG FT TP Stohler - — — 2 15 Powers ... 6 8 20 Heier 4 5 13 Flegal 1 0 2 Berlien —— 2 2 6 Hoffman 0 4 4 Cable 2 0 4 Totals -- 17 20 54 Preliminary Decatur, 37-35.
