Informed sources said the experiments will include a deepspace probe toward the orbit of the planet Venus, and five earth satellites studying new communications, navigation and weathercharting techniques. L. M. Eley Dies Sunday Evening L. M. Eley, 87. a native of Monroe township.' died at 5:30 p. m * Sunday in his home on the Laur•el Mattox farm northeast of i Berne. He has no immediate surI vivors. Services will be held at 10 a m. Wednesday at the Yager funeral home, the Rev. T. E Beihold officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p m. Tuesday. River Frozen Over, Many Are Skating The level of St Mary’s river has not altered=sinee Friday afternoon, according to weather observer Louis Landrum—it’s frozen. And much to the delight of locdl enthusiasts as Saturday and Sun ; day found many ice skaters taking advantage of Decatur’s first real touch of winter at all the skating areas. t z ■ . The recordings listed for the river by Landrum are as follows: Saturday—4:l2 feet with .01 inches of precipitation; Sunday—4.l2 feet with no precipitation, and Monday —4.12 feet with no precipitation. Explains Reason For Cloudy Water The reason for the cloudy water on Friday was explained today by city engineer Ralph Roop. Roop said that a fuse blew at one of the stations on a pump, Friday causing the regular flow to be interrputed. When the fuse was replaced the water picked up harmless sediment in the pipes, clouding the watefr.

Smoking Chimney Brings Out Firemen Decatur firemen corrected a possible fire condition at the John Miller residence at 916 iJierkes street Sunday morning after receiving a call to extinguish a fire. Upon arrival, firemen found that the plugged chimney was forcing smoke into the house. After cleaning debris from the chimney, the smoke was again carried out of doors Only minor smoke damage occurred withiri the house. The call came in at 8:45 and the fire meri returned aL$:25 a m. Tv'o Defendants Are Fined This Morning Two cases were heard this morning in city court with both defendants receiving fines on two of the three charges pressed! by city police. Keith Lamar Brandt. 20, oi route 2. Decatur, who was arrested Jan. 17 on charges of speeding and reckless driving, paid $5 and costs, a total of $23.75, on the speeding charge after pleading guilty. He entered a plea of not guilty on reckless driving and was found not guilty. Norman P. Schieferstein, 25, of 1048 N. Second street, who was arrested by city police at 11:45 p. m. Saturday at 830 N. 13th street, pleaded guilty to the public intoxication charge, and paid the $1 fine and costs.

Ohio (UPD— A familiar yet new sight greeted ■ newspaper readers today with the first issue of the Cleveland Press and News. Sale of the name, title and good will of the Cleveland News to the Scripps-Howard Newspapers, publishers of the Cleveland Press, was announced during the weekend. Both were afternoon papers. Sterling Graham, president of the Forest City Publishing Co., said higher publishing costs and financial losses caused the sale of the News, which was established here 55 years ago. Purchase price was not disclosed. The sale left Cleveland with two daily newspapers of general circulation. Forest City Publishing Co. also publishes the Cleveland Plain Dealer, a morning and Sunday newspaper. The News had a circulation of about 134,000, Pre-s in excess of 314,000.
