"Across From Erie Depot." 163 TF Resume Hearing On Proposed Rafe Hike INDIANAPOLIS (UPD— A public hearing into a proposed rate hike by Indiana's largest electric utility was resumed today in the wake of charges that Rural Electric Membership Corporations are “a special and privileged group.” The charge against the REMCs was made Monday by Robert A. Gallagher, president of Public Service Company of Indiana, Inc. His firm seeks a rate boost from 315,000 residential customers in 69 counties. REMCs which obtain power at wholesale rates from PSCI are exempt from the proposed rate hike. Gallagher’s charge against the REMCs was drawn out by Vance M. Waggoner, who represents Wabash, Shelbyville, Jeffersonville and Clarksville in the case. It came during an Indiana Public Service Commission hearing. Gallagher indicated that his firm did not want to offend the REMCs because it would give them “more reason” to build a §4 million dollar power plant which would compete with PSCI. The REMCs have applied to the federal government for a loan to tonild the huge power project » Gallagher said that if the PSCI included the REMCs in the proposed rate hike, it would ‘‘give more reason for the public power group to put the plant in and would cost our rate payers more money by raiding our territories. Waggoner and public counselor Ge or g e Diven immediately charged that Gallagher’s statements about the REMCs P re iU" diced his firm’s request for the rate increase. They said his remarks were cause for "reversible error. * "Gallagher virtually admits that the only reason his firm did not seek increases for REMCs is because they didn’t want any more trouble out of them,” Diven said. The REMCs earlier requested authority from the PSC intervene in the case. But the petition was denied. . The rate increase proposed by PSCI would give the utility an additional gross annual revenue of about $5,200,000-Water-Celolr Paintings , One of the questions that drives art museum curators wild is the one about cleaning water colors—or what can be done to restore them after they have been washed with soap and water. You CANNOT alean them! Leave them alone.
