Muncie Central Is Unanimous Pick For Top By KURT FREUDENTHAL United Frees International INDIANAPOLIS iUPD -Muncie Central ruled the roost today in Indiana high school basketball with the second straight perfect score from the United Press International coaches' board. It was the fourth straight time this season and seventh overall for the battling Bearcats in in the state-wide ratings. All 15 ballots had the unbeaten ft-game winner# in first spot for {a clean sweep and 126 points. The balloting was for games through last Saturday. Muncie hopes 'to be two scalps richer by Saturday night with road games at Anderson and South Bend Central. Every other “Big 10” berth changed hands, however, and the biggest switch had Gary Roosevelt in sixth place. The Panthers, beaten only by Froebel of the Steel City early in the season, were upgraded from llth place after knocking . East Chicago Washington from the perfect ranks last Friday. 75-71. Second-Place Tie Four other teams moved up— Kokomo from fourth to second for a tie with Madison, which was third last week; Michigan City from sixth to fifth and Indianapolis Tech from ninth to eighth. Rushville. bounced from the undefeated category at Seymour last Friday, 79-75, was demoted from seventh to llth, and East Chicago, Jasper. Bloomington and Indianapolis Attucks also slipped. East Chicago was dropped from second to fourth. Jasper from fifth to seventh, Bloomington from eighth to ninth, and Attucks, idle since the Indianapolis holiday j tourney, from ninth to 19th. Harry Smith Leads All-Star Bowling OMAHA (UPI) — Handsome Harry Smith of St. Louis and three fellow townsmen led the way into the second day of the match game finals of the national All-Star Bowling tournament today. The only other St. Louisian in the finals field, always dangerous Don Carter, lagged back in 12th position. But Carter, who has won the tournament four times—more than any other man — was still the bowler the leaders feared most. He also trailed badly in the early stages of the qualifying games: but staged a dramatic rally which put him in seventh position at the final cut. Smith was in first dace tgfih, 78 Petersen points and nine surplus pins. Andy Rogoznica of Chicago, the only “foreigner” among the top five, was second high with 77 points and an extra 44 pins. Defending champion Billy Welu was third with 77-33, blond Bill Lillard, who is competing in his llth consecutive All-Star finals, was fourth with 76-23, and last year’s runnerup Ray Bluth was fifth at 75-45. Shirtley Garms. Chicago, who lost only one of her eight matches Tuesday, was far out in front of the women’s field. But a trio of former champions were bunched behind her. The men will face four opponents in four-game matches every day through Friday when the champions will be crowned. The girls pitch eight games—four twoline matches—daily. Mrs. Garms spilled 1,581 pins through eight games and didn’t taste defeat until the final outing when Sylvia Wene of Philadelphia topped her by three pins.
