Hearing Denied To Condemned Slayer WASHINGTON (UPD-The U.S. Supreme Court denied a hearing Monday to condemned “dunes slayer” George Robert Brown in connection with his murder conviction in the death of a Gary beauty parlor operator three years ago. ' • Brown contended in his appeal to the nation's highest court that his. confession should not have been allowed in evidence against him However, the court rejected the plea for a hearing, but noted that Brown could seek a writ of habeas corpus in a federal district court. Brown, 27, has been in death trow at Indiana State Prison since his conviction Dec. 13, 1957 for the robbery-murder of Mrs. Mildred Grigonis, 29, Gary. He also confessed to Lake Countv authorities that he buried Miss Lana Brock, 16. New Chicago. Sept. 24, 1956, after criminally assaulting her. Officials said Miss Brock was buried alive in the sand and died of suffocation. The Indiana Supreme Court has granted the former mental patient three stays of execution, and Supreme Court Justice Tom C. Clark granted Brown a fourth delay Feb. 27, 1958, to alow time to I prepare his latest appeal, j Brown added to his crime record by staging a break from the Lake County Jail at Crown Point Nov. 18. 1957, but was recaptured two days later in Mattoon, 111.
