Pedestrian Killed West Os Fort Wayne FORT WAYNE, Ind. <UPD—A 68-year-oid junk collector was knocked down by a car today on U.S. 24 and then run over and | killed by an undetermined number of other vehicles. ■ Indiana State Police said the victim was Ira H. Weaver. Alexandria. He first was hit by a car driven by Robert S. Hartman. 35. ! Fort Wayne. Then a truck and several other vehicles struck bis | body as it lay in the highway six | miles west of here. 1 However, only Hartman stopped, and police said the other drivers did not appear to know they had struck a txxiy. Weaver had been riding in a i truck driven by Leslie Mack, [Alexandria, for a salvage comipany at Alexandria. Mack said he [went to a nearby restaurant to call a wrecker when the truck staled. But Weaver apparently became chilled or weary of wa 't" ing. got out and started to walk along the highway. Police said they are searching for possible relatives of the dead Iman. He ie believed to have a sister, Mrs. Mary Wetchel. Dani ville, 111., but at mid-day police ihad not been able to locate her.
