O— — o I Modern Etiquette By ROBERTA LEE I o — o Q. Would it be all right for me to ask the girls I am inviting to a bridal shower on a friend to con. tribute a certain amount of money towards one big present for the bridd? A. No; this would be in extremely poor taste. It is much better to allow each guest to buy her own gift and spend as little or as much as she wishes. Q. What is the proper way of addressing the mayor of our city? A. In speaking to him, you say, ‘‘Mr. Mayor.” On an envelope, you write, “His Honor the Mayor.” And the salutation to formal letters to him is “Dear Sir.” Q. Is it the place of the best man or one of the ushers to propose the toast to the newlyweds at the wedding reception? A. It really doesn’t matter. Whoever can do this most easily should do it. Q. What does one use for putting butter into -one’s baked potato or other item of food on one’s plate? A. This application is made with the fork.
