Hartford is idle this week. The Decatur Yellow Jackets, who, to put it mildly, are having their troubles, tangle with a rival of many years when they host the Bluffton Tigers at the Decatur gym. Bluffton, picked by the experts to be one of the outstanding teams in this area, is having its troubles, too. —oOo— Feature game, however, will be staged at the Berne goal hall, where the Bears will tangle with their neighboring Adams Central Greyhounds. The Bears, who have been off and on to date, meet the Greyhounds, on a winning streak of six games. —oOo— Decatur’s Commodores, who snapped a three-game losing skein Friday night, move out to Monmouth to tangle with the Eagles Tuesday, and the Pleasant Mills Spartans journey to play the county-leading Geneva Cardinals, who have lost only one game. —oOo— Top news of last week was the frist victory of the season for the Monmouth Eagles, who lost their first seven in a row before edging the Bryant Owls Friday night. Surprise of the week was Geneva’s victory over the Berne Bears Friday, and in Berne’s own back yard. The Cardinals have won sex and lost only one, and that defeat was at the hands of the Decatur Yellow Jackets. —oOo— The Jackets will be the only county team in action next week, competing in the four-team holiday tourney kt the new Portland gym Saturday, Jan. 2. Holiday Meet Tickets Are On Sale Here A concerted drive is underway to increase sale of season tickets for the annual holiday basketball tourney at Portland Jan. 2 by the Decatur high booster club. Club president Jim Moses said this morning that since the proceeds from the tourney are divided according to the number of season tickets sold, Decatur may lose out on quite a bit of money if more tickets are not sold. Moses said that a special stand will be set up at the Decatur gym Tuesday during the Bluffton game to promote further sales. The price of the season tickets is $1.50, and the price of the single session tickets is sl. Last year, Tipton was dropped from the tourney. Whether they were dropped because they had the lowest amount of season ticket sales, is a matter of speculation, Moses said, but Decatur was second low in the four team figures. If things go true to course, Moses said, Decatur could be dropped if more interest isn’t shown in the athletic program. Portland received top share last year, netting $298 from season tickets for a total of $541.97. Bluffton was next with a total of $536.81 with $336 from season ticket sales. Decatur netted $346 total with only $120.77 from season ticket sales. Tipton had only 40 tickets sales, but gained nearly SIOO in mileage for a $342.81 figure, pretty close to Decatur’s share. Hartford City replaced Tipton in the tourney. Week's Schedule For Adams County Basketball Teams Tuesday Bluffton at Yellow Jackets. Commodores at Monmouth. Adams Central at Berne. West Virginia Wins Kentucky Meet Saturday By FRED DOWN United Press International West Virginia rests on its laurels after its smashing victory in the Kentucky Invitational but the nations other top fives face stern tests this week leading up to the whirl of holiday tournaments starting next Saturday. Second-ranked Ohio State plays a pair of toughies on the road tonight and Tuesday, first-ranked Cincinnati goes against rugged eighth-ranked Bradley in a real back-yard brawl Tuesday night and St. Louis, Kansas, Kentucky, Indiana and Georgia Tech also see action in the next 48 hours. The frantic action comes to a complete halt Thursday and Christmas Day but then reaches a new season peak Saturday with the start of the Holiday Festival tournament in New York and the West Coast A. C. tourney in San Francisco. And the activity really boils over a week from today with outstanding tournaments in every section of the country. West Outstanding It’s doubtful, however, if any team will come out of the holiday ‘‘madness” with a victory to top the one achieved by West Virginia at Lexington, Ky., Saturday night. Jerry West, playing the second half with a 1 broken nose, scored 33 points in the 79-70 victory over Kentucky that stretched the thirdranked Mountaineers’ winning streak to eight games. West suffered the injury when struck by a stray Kentucky elbow near the end of the first' half and play was stopped several times during the second half when bleeding resumed. “It’s always a great challenge to play Kentucky on its home floor,” said Mountaineer Coach Fred Schaus. “West played his usual great game but he had to share honors in this one with Lee Patrone.” Patrone, a 6-1, 195-pounder who has been a “minute man” for West Jfwginia the last two seasons, tossed in 21 points Billikens Rip North Carolina Sixth-ranked St. Louis ripped
