DECATUR DAILY DEMOCRAT Published Every Evening Except Sunday By THE DECATUR DAILY DEMOCRAT CO.. INC. Entered at the Decatur, lad., Post Office as Second Class Matter Dick D. Heller, Jr. - President John G. Heller .... Vice-President Chas. Halthouse Secretary-Treasurer The New Offer Indiana-Michigan may again offer the city of Decatur $2,099,100 for the city utility. This price would include the present lines, transformers, poles, etc., plus the diesel plant site, including building and engine. It would include the steam engine and turbine, but not the building or land. I&M would get to use the building, and also the warehouse, which is not included in the sale, until their sub-station is completed. The sub-station would be located on the diesel plant lot. Headquarters for I&M locally would be located in the diesel building. The old equipment would be removed from the diesel and steam plants, and sold for scrap or used elsewhere. The people of the city would get more, actually, than the sale price. They would receive the amounts in the sinking and depreciation fund, which on September 30 was $299,174.50. They would get the cash on hand, which was then $57,270.12; S3OO in the petty cash fund; $69,810.63 in the accounts receivable; $200.51 in interest receivable; $74,840.31 in material and supplies; $4,769.62 in prepaid insurance, and $346.49 for other accrued assets. This means an additional $506,711.91. This would give the city total assets resulting from the sale of $2,605,811.99, based on the September 30 figures. The additional $506,711.91 actually belongs to the city right now, but is tied up in the electric company in the funds mentioned. The city would have to pay off $670,000 in outstanding diesel plant bonds. The customers would receive deposits back amounting to $18,782.95. All bills would have to be paid to the date of sale. Accounts payable September 30 were $48,510.46. The council has already promised that the money received from the sale would be invested in government bonds t .with a; watchdog committee appointed to absolutely safeguard the funds. Long-term governments today are an exceptionally good buy, and will probably be even better in the near future. . The voters of Decatur signified on Nov. 3 that they . favored, sale of the plant by a 777 vote margin- a high percentage of voter. «<&k part in th* election. tatiCh - higher than in the spying election, which rejected another sale offer by 273 'votes. *
