OFFICERS INSTALLED AT RECENT CHRISTMAS PARTY Mrs. Royal Friend was hostess Tuesday for the carry-in dinner and Christmas party held by the Root township Home Demonstration club. Mrs. Friend, president, opened the meeting with the club creed. Roll call was answered with a Christmas wish. Mrs. Al Schneider presnted the treasurer’s report and the secretary’s report was given by Mrs. Robert Johnson. Mrk Noah Habegger, county president, installed the following newly elected officers for 1960: president, Mrs. Nevin Miller; vice president, Mrs. Leo King, Sr.; secretary, Mrs. Lloyd Bowman; treasurer. Mrs. Otto Spiegel; lead- • ers, Mrs. Richard Moses and Mrs. Ralph Rice; alternate leaders, Mrs. Russel Fleming and Mrs. Omer Merriman; news reporter, Mrs. Norbert Aumann; song leaders, Mrs. Adolph Wiedler; health and safety, Mrs. Bernice Magley; citizenship, Mrs. Sherman Kunkel. Prior to the serving of dinner, Mrs. Lou Houk read the Christmas story and presented devotions. A cookie exchange was enjoyed by all present. Mrs. Fred Kunkel, Mrs. Lee Fleming, and Mrs. Lester Painter were in charge of the program. The members then sang Christmas carols and participated in games . and contests. Mrs. Dale Moses was winner of the door prize. A gift exchange and drawing i of secret pal names for 1960 concluded the evening. The club will hold a party for their husbands in January. V.OOD SAMARITAN CLASS I MEETS SUNDAY The Good Samaritan class of the Monroe Methodist church school met at noon Sunday in the social rooms of the church for a basket dinner and fellowship hour. The afternoon was spent filling 30 boxes of goodies to be given to

HOLD CHRISTMAS DINNER AT DUTCH MILL IN BLUFFTON The Monroe Better Homes Demonstration club met at 6:30 o’clock Friday evening in the dining room of the Dutch Mill at Bluffton for a dinner and Christmas party. The banquet table was decorated with Christmas candles and gifts surrounded a decorated tree on a side table. Mrs. Ervin Stucky, president, offered prayer before the meal. After group singing, Mrs. Richard Everett read the devotions, the Christmas story from Luke. A vocal duet, “Silver Bells.” was sung by Mrs. James Nussbaum and Mrs. Herbert Fruchte. Twenty-sev-en members and one guest answered roll call and Mrs. Harry Crownover then read a memorial for a deceased member of the club, Mrs. Forest Ray. Mrs. Dan Striker, the new county president, then installed the new officers in an impressive candlelight service. The following officers were installed: president, Mrs. Ervin Stucky; vice president, Mrs. Wilbur Stanley; publicity, Mrs. Eva Brewster; leaders, Mrs. Wijlis Gierhart and Mrs. Herbert Fruchte; alternate leaders; Mrs. Richard Reinhart and Mrs. Claude Laisure; song leader, Mrs. Glen Stucky. poems and games and a gift exchange followed. Names of secret pals for next year were drawn. Hostesses for the affair were Mrs. Willis Gierhart. Mrs. Richard Everett, and Mrs. Donald Borne. CLASS MARKS SEASON WITH DINNER AND PROGRAM The church parlor of the Trinity Evangelical United Brethren ! church was gayly adorned with Christmas decorations for the annual family Christmas supper held recently by the Builders class. Following a short business meeting conducted by the class president, Mrs. Ralph Stevens, Mrs. Sephus Jackson led the devotions. The reading .of the Christmas story from the Bible and the singing of Christmas carols were also included in the program. A special Christmas prayer was given, with all members recalling things for which they were thankful. The arrival of Santa Claus and the handing out of treats concluded the evening’s activities. The class presented their teacher, Mrs. Marie' Deßolt, and assistant teacher, Chalmer with special gifts. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kent were hostesses for the party and were assisted by Mrs. Virgil Andrews, Mrs. Herman’ Sautbine, Mrs. Cedric Fisher, and Mrs. Ralph Stevens. WOMAN’S CLUB PRESENTS ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PROGRAM The sanctuary of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed church was filled with strains of Christmas music Monday evening when the music department of the Decatur Woman’s club presented their annual Christmas program at 8 p.m. The singing of the club collect by the chorus, clad in choir robes, I opened the program. Mrs. Arthur Holthouse’s memorial tribute to Mrs. Fanny Dugan, a deceased member of the Woman’s club, was a highlight of the evening. A duet by Mrs. Edgar Gerber at the organ and Mrs. Harry Dailey, piano, was included in the program, along with vocal solos by Mrs. James Webb, Mrs. William Feller, Mrs. Dan H. Tyndall, Mrs. Sephus Jackson, and Mrs., Stuart Brightwell. A trio consisting of Miss Alice Roth. Mrs. Jerald Lobsiger, and Mrs. Harry Dailey also performed. The program was under the direction of Miss Helen Haubold, with Mrs. J. Fred Fruchte as accompanist.

i At 6;30 p.m. Saturday in the Trinity Evangelical United Breth--1 ren church, Miss Judith Mae McKean, daughter of Mrs. Margaret C. McKean, became the bride of ..Curtis P. Jones. The Rev. J. O. Penrod received the double ring vows in front of an altar adorned with vases of white chrysanthemums. White satin bows marked the pews. Harold Mumma. organist, played “Because” and the traditional wedding march. The bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Myrtle Jones, 904 Dierkes Street. The bride's mother resides at 109 South 11th Street. The bride was given in marriage by her cousin, Ned C. Johnson. She selected a white satin bridal gown, fashioned with three-quarter sleeves and a rounded neckline. The princess lines featured a bow | in front and a deeo drane in back forming a train effect. She wore a shoulder length veil of silk illusion •and a single strand of pearls given to -her by the bridegroom and she carried a white orchid surrounded Tjy white’chrysanthemums. Mrs. Paul Daniels, matron of honor, appeared in a pale blue chiffon over deep blue taffeta. The fitted bodice featured a large bow in back. MEETING HELD AT HOME OF MRS. FRED SMITH The home of Mrs. Fred Smith was beautifully deonrated in keeping with the Christmas season for ' the December meeting of the La-i dies Shakespeare club Wednesdays ■ afternoon. The meeting opened with the club collect, led by the president, Mrs. Teeple. The members were delighted with the reading of a poem found in the club minutes in* the year 1895, written by Mrs. Helen Blossom. The group brought articles for the good will bag and voted to buy another annual health bond. In the absence of Mrs. Jessie Rice, who is out of the city, Mrs. Harold Bond gave a program on. “Christmas Thoughts on the First Christmas.” Following the program, the hos-' tess, assisted by Miss Frances Dugan, served refreshments. The primary and junior departments of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed church will meet at the church for a rehearsal Saturday at 1 o’clock. Defense Concludes Embezzlement Trial KOKOMO. Ind. (UPD — The defense rested Its case late Wednesday in the embezzlement trial of Cecil Laymen, former clerk for the Logansport municipal utilities, in Howard Circuit Court. Laymen, 38, was charged with embezzlement of $1,212 from the office in 1957. If convicted, he could be Sentenced to a maximum of 2-to-21 years in prison. Lay mon was convicted earlier this year of embezzlement in Cass : Circuit Court at Logansport andappealed a 2-to-14 year sentence. ; Decatur Studc ..1 On Purdue Judging Team « Lafayette, ind. — a Purdue University vegetable judging team placed second in the annual intercollegiate vegetable judging, grading and identification contest at Atlantic City. The event is sponsored by the national vegetable growers’ association of America. Team members were Dennis Wolheter, Kendallville; Charles Mainland, LaPorte; Robert Hostler, Avilla, and Gail Hammond, Decatur. The alternate was Sharon Laswell, Kansas City, Missouri. The Purdue team total oL 4,103 out of a possible 4.365 points was 100 points above third place Connecticut and 90 points below first place Massachusetts. Five other teams competed. Leslie Hafen, Purdue horticulturist, coached the Purdue team.
