EARLY CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION HELD The Jerry Gehrigs. 1121 Master Dr., celebrated an early Christmas l in their home Sunday. Following i dinner, various games were played and prizes awarded. Santa Claus then made his appearance, speaking to the adults and individually to the children. Before his departure. he presented everyone with a gift. Moving pictures were taker, at various times during the day. Attending the gathering were Mrs. Treva Werling, Mr. and Mrs. Jean Werling. Larry, Denny, and Linda, Mr. and Mrs. George Abels, Gary, Gregg, and Glen, all from I Fort Wayne, Mr. and Mrs. Don Werling, Mike, Peggy, and Cynthia and Randy, children of the Gehrigs, all from Decatur. LEGION HOME SCENE OF CHRISTMAS DINNER The Legion home was the scene Sunday of the Christmas party held by the Past Presidents parley of American Legion Auxiliary. Forty members enjoyed a chicken dinner, served at 5 p.m. • The group played cards and games during the social hour. Instead of an exchange, each inember donated money to buy coupon books for needy women veterans in the Marion V. A. hospital. Master Dennis Rash offered prayer before the meal. The tables were enhanced with Christmas decorations of candles, poinsettias, and greenery and a large Christmas tree dominated one end of the room. A business meeting was conducted by the president, Mrs. Melvin Luhman. and the secretary and treasurer's reports were read. Mrs. Wilson Beltz will be hostess for the next meeting January 11. MISS BAKER FETED WITH SURPRISE SHOWER Miss Betty Baker was honored with a surprise kitchen shower Sunday, given by Miss Judy Koors, Miss Judy Baker, and Miss Mary Margaret Lengerich in Miss Koors’ home. Upon her arrival, the guest of honor was presented with a humorous corsage, consisting of a scratcher, a hot pad and'holder, and measuring spoons. The guests played several games and Mrs. Arthur Lengerich, who was the recipient of both prizes, presented the prizes to Miss Baker. After Bftker had opened her maqy ‘gifts*, the hostesses served cakie, The guests included Mirs. Robert Baker, Mrs. Fritz Baker, Mrs. Robert Hall, Mrs. Wilbur Reidenbach, Mrs. Arthur Lengerich, Mrs. Frances Koors, Miss Pat Baker, Miss Carolyn Heimann, Miss Rosalie Voglewede, Miss Rosemarie Meyers, Miss Rita Mendez, and Miss Jackie Baker.

" ~ — PYTHIAN SISTERS CLUB ELECTS 1960 OFFICERS The Pythian Sisters Needle club 'and Temple held their annual j Christmas dinner and gift exchange Monday at the Moose home. Appropriate Christmas decorations and a lighted Christmas tree adorned the dining room and nut cups and favors marked individual places at the table. After the turkey dinner, the members participated in a contest. Mrs. Martin Weiland and Mrs. Lawrence Roop were the winners of prizes. The group then exchanged gifts. Hostesses for the j dinner were Mrs. Joe Hunter, Mrs. Hersel Nash, Mrs. Effie McGill, Mrs. Cletus Schnepp, Mrs. Fred Fruchte, Mrs. Homer Lower, Mns 4 J. T. Meyers, and Mrs. Roy Johnson. Mrs. Lower offered the dinner prayer. Mrs. Lloyd Ahr, president, presided at the meeting and welcomed a new member, Mrs. Alva Buffenbarger. Following the dinner, the election of officers was held. Members assuming duties for 1960 are: Mrs. Adam Kunowich, past chief; Mrs. Hersel Nash, most excellent chief; Mrs. Cletus Schnepp, most excellent senior; Mrs. Lawrence Roop, most excellent junior; Mrs. Cecil Gause, manager; Mrs. Francis Howard, protector; Mrs. Byron Smith, guard; Mrs. Martin Weiland, treasurer; Mrs. Otto Beehler, secretary. Mrs. Frank Crist will be the new press reporter, with Mrs. Adam Kunowich as delegate to the grand temple and Mrs. Don Jeffries, alternate delegate. Delegate to district convention is Mrs. Cletus Schnepp, Mrs. Cecil Gause, alternate. Mrs. Ed Ahr is captain ofi the degree staff and the new installing officer is Mrs. Fred Striker. Mrs. Lloyd Ahr will act as pianist and Mrs. John Doan will be trustee. Members of the audit committee are Mrs. Don Jeffries, Mrs. Lloyd Ahr, and Mrs. John Beery. The next regular meeting will be held January 11 at the Moose home. V.F.W. POST AND AUXILIARY MAKE FUTURE PLANS Members of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary conducted a combined business and social meeting at the post home recently. During the business session, a change was announced for the auxiliary Christmas party. A luncheon will take the place of the usual carry-in supper. Entertainbe included in the program. The auxiliary received and acknowledged a card of thanks from Mrs. Robert Shraluka for sponsoring her Brownie troop. The group then voted to buy a T.B. bond and also to donate $5-to the Good Fellows club. Following the business session, a
combined meeting was held with the post members to discuss plans to remodel the kitchen. The V.F.W. post announced their annual Christmas party, to be held Friday evening at 7:30 at the post home. Members are asked to bring their children to this party. The meeting closed with the re- , tiring of the colors to re-open January 4. LADY BUGS MEET RECENTLY FOR CHRISTMAS PARTY The Lady Bugs held a Christmas potluck supper Monday at the V.F.W. home at 6:30 p.m. The members enjoyed games, a Christmas gift exchange, and a visit from Santa Claus. Mrs. Kenneth Birch, Mrs. Ronald Ballard, and Mrs. Ray Kramer were on the entertainment committee. Among the members present for the affair were the Mesdames Richard Baker, Ray Vfenis, Nellie Jackson, Harry Martz, Delbert Augsburger, Raymond Bodie, Eugene Curtiss, Robert Butler, Wayne Fisher, Clarence Stevens, and one guest, Mrs. Fred Pomerenke. Locals i Mrs. TeFrona Floyd left yesterday for Tampa, Fla., where she will spend the winter months. Word has been' received from Mr. and Mrs.* Harry Maddox, who arrived in Sarasota, Fla., earlier this week. They will remain in Florida until April. At 8:12 a. m. today, a son weighing eight pounds, ten ounces was born to Lindy and Maryann Angus Barrand, Fort Wayne. Fort Wayne Forgery Suspect Arrested The federal bureau of investigation announced the capture of Robert Charles Jacobs, former Fort Wayne resident, who is believed to be the suspect who robbed ScottSieling Inc. of Fort Wayne of 400 payroll checks. Several of the checks were passed in the Decatur area, with the most recent being in Berne last week at the Mennonite Book store. Jacpbs was picked up on a federal warrant in Sioux City, la., charged with unlawful flight from Indiana to avoid prosecution. He will be charged with forgery in Fort Wayne in connection with the passing offraudulent payroll checks from the Fort Wayne firm. These cheeks were also passed at Bluffton, Columbia City, and other Fort Wayne area cities. Wave Os Accidents Hits State Monday United Press International At least nine deaths since early Monday have boosted Indiana's 1959 traffic' fatality toll to 1,044— just 15 short of last year's final total. Among the victims were the head of the Indiana Employment Security Division and an Indiana State Police trooper. \ The latest fatalities were Har- ■ old D. Lee, 19, Payne, Ohio, and ! Donald Lee Fry, 17, Fulton. Lee ■ j was lulled today in a car-truck | crash on U. S. 30 east of Fort' Wayne. Fry was killed either late Monday night or earlw today when his car crashed on a county road south of Rochester and struck two cement poles. Trooper Robert J. Garrison, 27. Albany, was killed in a threevehicle accident on wind 67 near Daleville in Delaware Count’.’.' IESD Director William C. Stalnaker, 66, died wnen his auto ‘ smashed into a tree along U.S. 40 east of Brazil. The accident which killed Gar-! rison occurred when the trooper i swerved to avoid a slow-moving | car driven by Oscar M. Thomp- | son. 50. Yorktown, and was struck broadside py a truck driven by j Edward Huggins, 50, Redkey. Gar-! rison had been with the state po-’ lice since 1955 and is survived by his widow, Louise, and two children. Also killed in traffic smash-ups' Monday were three members of a Farmington, Mtch., family, Mr. j and Mrs Elden Adams and their seven-year-old son, Gary; Mrs. Dorothy Newton, 38, Warsaw, and Foy E. Jones, 75, Monticello. Girl Scouts Troop 269 met Monday after school at the Youth and Community Center. The meeting opened with the first Girl Scout law, after which roll call and dues were taken. The girls worked on their Christmas gifts while the business meeting was being held.
