Colls, Giants Meet Dec. 27 For Pro Title By FRED DOWN United Press International It’ll be Chuck Conerly against Johnny. Unitas in a duel of redhot quarterbacks when the New ' York Giants and Baltimore Colts clash for the second straight year as the climax to another record National Football League season. Both stars demonstrated over the week end that they’re ready for the big show old pro Conerly throwing two touchdown passes as the Giants beat the Washington Redskins, 24-10, Sunday and young suppr-star Unitas hurling three scoring passes when the Colts clinched the Western Division crown with a 45-26 triumph over the Los Angeles Rams, Saturday. The decks thus were cleared for a replay of last year’s famous "sudden death" overtime won by the Colts, 30-24, at Yankee Stadium. The teams have two weeks to prepare for this year’s show down in Baltimore, Dec. 27. A total of 315,320 fans turned out for the final week end of the regular season raising the league’s season attendance to a new mark of 3,321,444. The old mark of 3,006,124 was set in 1958. Browns Whip Eagles ' The Cleveland Browns defeated the Philadelphia Eagles, 28-21, the Chicago Bears beat thfe Detroit Lions, 25-14, the Green Bay Packers routed the San Francisco Forty-Niners, 36-14, and the Pittsburgh Steelers scored a 35-20 vicItory over the Chicago Cardinals in Sunday's other windup games. The Giants became the first NFL team to win 10 games in a season since 1953 when they rallied from a 10-7 halftime deficit at Washington. DC. The Colts trailed going into the final period. 26-24, Saturday but Unitas* third touchdown pass of the game put them in front and they’ aeded two clinching slx-i pointers in a 21-point fourth-period burst. ' ~ ■ Brown Scores Twice Jimmy Brown scored two touchdowns on shod bursts and gained 152 yards, in 33 carries as the Browns tied the Eagles for second place in the Eastern'Division. The Bears clinched second place in the Western Division and achieved a seven-game winning streak for the first time in 16 years. Berne Defeats Angola In Two Overtime Tilt Jim Hill dropped in a pair of free throws in the second overtime Saturday night to defeat the tough Angola Hornets, 54-52, at the Berne gym. Each team scored six points in the first overtime for a 52-52 tie. Angola gained possession of the ball at the tlpoff opening the sudden death overtime, controlled the ball for the first two minutes and then missed a shot. Berne took the rebound and Hill was fouled. The stock guard dropped In both free throws and the Bears had their fifth victory in seven starts. Berne, which played the entire game without substitution, built up an 11-3 bulge in the first quarter and held a 26-17 advantage at the half. The Hornets came back to trail by only two points, 38-36, at the third period, and the teams were tied at 46-46 at the expiration of the regular playing time. Rod Schwartz topped the Bears with 20 points, Hill adding 14 and Phil Sprunger 10. Barlien tallied 16 and Stohler 14 for Angola. The Bears will host the Geneva Cardinals Friday night at the Berne gym. Police said Darlene Greshann, 32, told them Sunday night that Rock was knocked unconscious when he fell backwards down a flight of stairs in an apartment house in which she lived early Sunday. They said a Negro cab driver and the woman admitted taking Rock to an East Denver park and leaving him lying propped against a tree. The body of the Democratic national committeeman from Colorado was found in the trash-lit-tered park area by a woman oh her way to church. He was lying face down on the grass between a sidewalk and a curbing. The woman and the cab driver, identified as William F. Trimble, 28. were being held along with Clarence McGroom, 32, for investigation of homicide, police said. Detective Sgt. Keith Morris said authorties had not completed checking on their story.

The Yellow Jackets travel to Columbia City to meet the Eagles in a Northeastern Indiana conference test. The Commodores journey to Pleasant Mills to meet the Spartans. Berne and Geneva collide at Berne, Ossian plays at Adams Central, and Bryant will be at Monmouth. Feature of last week’s card was the double overtime victory scored by the Berne Bears over Angola Saturday night. Just one night earlier, the Hornets had upset the highly touted Bluffton Tigers. Friday night, the Geneva Cardinals registered a decisive victory over Hartford in another feature of the week’s play. The Fort Wayne Concordia Cadets are leading the young Northeastern Indiana conference race with three victories. The Cadets are the only unbeaten team in the loop, although Auburn has yet to play a conference engagement. Unbeaten Mountaineers hit the tournament trail this week and find out whether they have a chance a being national champions again or mere pretenders to the throne. Off and running on a five-game winning streak, the third-ranked Mountaineers who were national champs during the 1957-58 season, are favored to make it six in a row when they face VMI tonight. The Mountaineers could be in for far more trouble Friday night, however, when they face seventhranked St. Louis in the opening game of the Kentucky Invitational Tournament. Even if they get past the Billikens. who upset sixth-ranked Kentucky, 7341, last Saturday night, the Mountaineers still will have to meet the winner of he North Carolina-Ken-tucky clash the following night in the tournament wind-up. West Leads Mountaineers West Virginia, which posted a 26-2 record in winning the national title two seasons ago but slipped somewhat with a 29-5 showing last year, went over the century mark for the first time this season in crushing Penn State, 107-74, Saturday night. AllAmerican Jerry West led the way with 34 points, making good on 12 of 19 shots from the field and 10 of 11 free throws. Top-ranked Cincinnati was idle during the week end and has a relatively light schedule this week. The Bearcats have only one game on tap during the next seven days and that one is with Louisville on Friday. Second-ranked Caifornia had little trouble with San Jose State, 54-43, and the Golden Bears have only a pair of games with Colorado on consecutive nights coming up this weekMcCaffrey Collects 21 All teams in the top 10, with the exception of Kentucky, came through in good style during the week end. The Wildcats trailed St. Louis, 38-37, at half-time, then saw the Billikens score seven straight points early in the second half and that proved to be the ball game. Pete McCaffrey paced St. Louis with 21 points. Fourth-ranked Ohio State was idle while fifth-ranked North Carolina humbled Kansas State, last year’s champs, 68-52, with the aid of.Lee Shaffer’s 24-point performance. Walt Bellamy, with 24 points, helped eighth-ranked Indian abeat Ohio University, 80-68, for its third straight victory: ninthranked Kansas rebounded from its loss to North Carolina and defeated North Carolina State, 80-58, and lOth-ranked Utah made it a week-end doubleheader victory over Wichita, 8845, after shellacking the same shockers, 10340, Friday night. Two Vehicles Collide in Monroe Saturday Sheriff Merle Affolder and state trodper Gene Rash investigated a two-car mishap in the town of Monroe Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at the. intersection of Andrews and Jackson streets, with SIOO damage involved. A car driven by John W. Mankey, 75, route 2, Decatur, and a truck driven by Erwin Stucky, 70, of Monroe, collided as each driver told police he did not see the other vericle. The Mankey car was southbound while the Stucky truck was westbound, turning south. Each car sustained SSO in damages. Two other weekend accidents in the county were published in Saturday's edition of the Daily Democrat. The 10-accident total, however, involved only two minor injuries. Tommy Jacobs Wins In Montebello Opan MONTEBELLO, Calif. (UPD - Tommy Jacobs returned to the greens of his childhood in triumph Sunday and shot a brilliant five under par 67 to win the $5,500 Montebello Open. The slender Palm Springs, Calif., golfer posted a 34-33 for a two-shot victory over long-hitting George Bayer, former University of Washington football star. Wren Defeats Pleasant Mills Saturday Night The Pleasant Mills Spartans suffered their eighth defeat of the season Friday night, losing to the Wren Eagles, 61-45, at the Wren gym. The Ohio quintet .held the lead at all quarters, 17-11, 31-22 and 49-27. Dwight Brunner and Jack Butler each scored 15 points for the Spartons, and Manley and Tumbleson each counted 15 for the Eagles. Pleasant Mills has two home games scheduled this week, entertaing the Petroleum Panthers Tuesday night, and the Decatur Commodores Friday night.
