Dream Assignment For German Girl By GAY PAULEY UPI Women’s Editor NEW YORK (UPI) — Renee Falcke, a blond miss from Munich, Germany, is by her own admission a lucky dame. How about that?,” she says, a bit unbelieving of her current job. “Here I am traveling around the world and getting paid for it.” Miss Falcke, a free lance fashion photographer - reporter, is on what any working girl would call a dream assignment — three months of zig-zagging her way by plane around the globe to see how the other half —female—lives. She zigged into town from Cuba for a few days to talk to a woman fashion leader and fulfill a longtime desire to see this metropolis from atop the Empire State Building From New York she headed for Accra, West Africa, to talk with the wife of Ghana’s president. Miss Falcke, a tall slim girl in her late 20s, said her assignment had its beginnings last June when the editor of the family magazine “Hoeren und Sehen” in Hamburg suggested she do a series of reports on life of women in other lands. He also suggested that she, not he, decide what countries to visit. Her itinerary finally settled to a flight from Germany to Tokyo with stops in Beirut and Calcutta; from Tokyo south to Hong Kong and Thailand; eastward to Honolulu, Seattle. Vancouver, 8.C., Alaska, and south across the United States and Central America into Peru, north again to Havan nd New York. After Ghana, she planned to go to Tripoli and said she hoped to get into Moscow' for chats with j Mrs. Nikita Khrushchev and Mrs. Boris Pasternak, the wife of the Nobel Prize-winning author. Then, it’s back by Jan. 3, to Germany, where she takes on a new assign-ment-photographing Paris’ latest hat styles for a fashion magazine. "The farther east I went the better I found the men treated me,” she said. “And travel for a girl alone is safe in almost every place, except maybe in Calcutta where the manager of my hotel told me not to go out after dark. I thought I’d venture just outside for a breah of air after dinner anyway. In two minutes, i was surrounded by strange men. I ran for the hotel and' locked myself in my room that night.” “I have reached one conclusion about us women,” she said. “The happiest are those who are not so well-educated •.. whose lives are less complicated than ours in West Germany or the United States. , Another conclusion: “The influence of the West on women is so strong, that with the jet age, .1 predict in 10 years we all will be dressing pretty much alike; Western style."
