But Wednesday, after 10 operations, a mold and tube were removed from the youngster’s throat and he talked .. . and then whoop* ed with joy. v Tommy learned Morse code and the sign language used by the deaf and mute during the long months when he could not speakSlowly, he managed to convey thoughts to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Thompson. “He started to silently p “He started to silently pronounce words,” Thompson said. “Tommy’s mother and I learned to read lips. We got along.” Tommy was silent for a moment when he got his first chance to try to talk again. “Go ahead, son, say something,” Thompson said. “Tom, try it,” a doctor added. Tommy did. He talked louder and louder. Then he began shouting. The Thompsons joined in. “It’s a miracle, that’s what ‘t is,” Thompson said. His father thinks Tommy talks better now than he ever did. “That silent pronunciation sure helped Tommy to speak clearly now,” he said “It was a pretty rough way to go about it, though.” Store Manager In Training Course Bryan E.
