WOMEN’S ASSOCIATION ,1 WILL MEET WEDNESDAY A Christmas play, “The Light of the World,” will be presented for the Presbyterian Women’s Association Wednesday evening. Mrs. Jack Knudsen is chairman of the program. Those who will take part in the play are Mrs. Knudsen, Mrs. Richard Schauss, Mrs. Ross Brian, Mrs. Talmage Campbell, and Mrs. Jim Stokke. Members of the association will bring Christmas gifts for the Hillcrest and Gary settlement houses, which will be dedicated by the president, Mrs. Robert Gay. The 1960 officers of the Presbyterian Association will be installed during' the service. WOMEN OF THE MOOSE PLAN CHRISTMAS PARTY Women of the Moose held chapter night Thursday, at the Moose home. The rneeting was called to order and plans were completed for the Christmas party to be held Thursday evening. The program will feature a potluck supper and $1 gift exchange. Members are reminded to bring their own table service. It was decided by the group to give $lO to Delta Theta Tau for the Good Fellows club. The ’ meeting closed in regular form. December 17 is the date of the next meeting, with officers at 7:30 p.m. and lodge at 8 p.m. DISTRICT NURSES TOUR DRUG COMPANY Fifty three nurses, members of district one, Indiana state nurses association, are attending a tour tof the Upjohn Pharmacentical Company in Kalamazoo, Mich. Lbcal registered nurses attending are Mary Rose Gauch and Margaret Eiting. The association plans its programs for education value and interest to registered nurses. This event is considered one of the highlights of the year. Wayne Theobold, area salesman for the Upjohn company, assisted the association in planning the tour. Miss Jean. Shockley, president of district one. Miss LucillA McLaughlin, treasurer, and Miss Emily Bacon, first vice president of the nurses association, were in charge of reservations and transportation for the event. CHAPMANS HONORED AT 50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY neighbors and friends helped Mr. and Mrs- Jay W. Chapman celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Nov. 28. Three of her sisters and pne broth-er-in-law who attended the wedding were present to help celebrate the golden anniversary. They were Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Monesmith of Monroeville, Mrs. Zelda Fox, Red Wind, Minn., and Mrs. Opal Lane, St. Paul, Minn. HEIDELBERG CLASS HOLDS CHRISTMAS DINNER Fifty members, and their families of the Heidelberg class of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed church met Thursday evening for a Christi mas carry-in dinner. Colorful holiday decorations and candy canes, which were later given as favors, adorned the dining tables in the church. A short program followed the meal. The group listened to a reading by Verna Ader and Bobby Schafer, which was followed by a piano duet by Becky Lord and Tanya August. Janet Lord played a piano selection. At the close of the program, group singing was enjoyed, prior to the arrival of Santa Claus, who distributed gifts to the children. f WOMEN'S GUILD MEETS TUESDAY The Women’s Guild of the Evangelical and Reformed church ofj Hagley held their December meeting Tuesday. Mrs. H* E. Settlage opened the meeting with a prelude, which was followed with a vocal duet by Mrs. Raymond Kolter and Mrs. James Myers. Mrs. Myers then offered prayer. Following the scripture reading by Mrs. Walter Peck and a reading of the Christmas story, the group sang carols. A play entitled, “Who is my Neighbor?” was presented by Mrs. Carlton Worthman, Mrs. James Myers, Mrs. Lulu Strahm, Mrs. Elmer Peters, Mrs. Carl Snyder, Mrs. Walter Egley, and Mrs. Eugene Murchland. Mrs. Harry Beavers gave a talk stressing church world service. The reading of a poem by Mrs. Worthman and another vocal duet i by Mrs. Myers and Mrs. Kolter concluded the program. Mrs. Walter Egley conducted a short business meeting .Hostesses for the iheeting were the Mesdames Walter Peck, Carlton Worthman, James Myers, Russell Moser, Lulu Strahm. Martin Walchle. Carl Snyder, and the Misses Matilda Peters and Lucile Hilgeman. MONROE METHODIST CHURCH SCENE OF W.S.C.B. MEETING Christmas music, played by Mrs. Russel Mitchel, opened the Thursday evening meeting of the Monroe Methodist W.S.C.S. in the youth room of the Methodist church. Mrs. Glen Stuckey conducted the

1 ' ' business meeting. ,• a Mrs. Chris Inniger, vice president, opened the program by reading Christmas meditations. Mrs. Mitchel gave the devotions for the evening and Mrs. Chester Butler of Berne was the guest soloist. Christmas in other lands was the topic of the lesion presented by Mrs. Harold Schwartz. Mrs. Raymond Harrison drew a chalk picture of “the greatest gift that was ever given.” Mrs. Paul Nussbaum was in charge of the white gift offering which will be sent to a student at Taylor University. Prior to the social hour, the group enjoyed a 25-ceni gift exchange. Refreshments in keeping with the Christmas season were served by Mrs. Clarence Mitchel, Mrs. Phil Barger, Mrs. George Cromer, Mrs. Martin Hoffman, Mrs. J. O. Parrish, and Mrs. Martin Steiner. Women of the Moose will hold a. Christmas party and potluck sup-’ per Thursday at the Moose home. Delta Theta Tau sorority will meet at the home of Mary Catherine and Rosemary Spangler Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. for a Christmas party. The Emblem club will meet at the Elks home Thursday evening at 6:30.f0r their regular meeting, which will be a Christmas party. A carry-in dinner and $1 gift exchange will be held. Highway Building Holds Open House Between 200 and 300 people attended the open house at the county highway building in Monroe Saturday morning and afternoon, Lawrence Noll, highway superintendent, said today. A number came during the afternoon, and the building was open until after 5:30 p.m. The county commissioners were there, and many others who were interested in tite construction of the new building.

Scribe, Kathy Bedwell December 19, at one-thirty, the Brownies and Girl Scouts of Decatur will gather round the yuletide tree in the courtyard to begin the Posada. In Mexico, a Christmas is brightened by this beautiful tradition of the Posada, which is the searching for the inn where the Christ child lay. As the Wise Men brought their gifts, the girls, too, will bring their gifts of song. The blending of voices to “Silent Night” will echo through the county hospital and home, and upon discovery of the Christ child in the manger, they will issue a joyous invitation by song to “Come All Ye Faithful.” Following the Posada, a Christmas festival will be held at the Northwest school and the Youth Center. Miss Carolyn Jean Isch became the bride of Richard Hugh Norris in an evening candlelight ceremony November 21 at the West Liberty Congregational Christian church near Bryant. The Rev. Warren Lewis received the vows in front of an altar decked with chrysanthemums, palms, and candelabra. _____ Miss Isch is'the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Isch, Portland and the granddaughter of Mrs. Dorwin Drake, route 3, Decatur. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Norris, Sr., Pennville. Nuptial selections were presented by Donald Kennedy, organist, and Bill Norris, brother of the bridegroom, vocalist. The bride, wearing a white, floor length* gown, entered on the arm of he? father. The full skirt featured lace trim scalloped from the waist and the bertha collar was trimmed with lace and sequins. Her fingertip veil of tulle was held by a crown of pearls, and she carried a white Bible top-, ped with a white orchid. Miss Patty Isch, sister of the | bride, was maid of honor and bridesmaids were Mrs. J. R. Cook, another sister of the bride, and Mrs. A. J. Bryan. The attendants were gowned identically in light green taffeta dresses and headpieces of white tulle veils. All . carried bouquets of chrysanthemums. Johnny Cook, nephew of Florence Lichtenstiger Suffers Broken Wrist Miss Florence Lichtenstiger is recovering at her home from a broken right wrist, suffered in a fall while carrying medicine to the pickup box outside of the office at which she works. The break was such that it was not discovered until the wrist was x-rayed after she finished her work Saturday. Local Lady's Brother Dies At Huntington Charles F. Plummer, 74, retired Erie railroad engineer of Huntington, died Sunday morning at the Huntington county hospital after an illness of four days. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Donald Young and Mrs. James Shaper of Huntington, and Mrs. Richard Davis of Fort Wayne; a sister, Mrs. Ray Steele of Decatur, and a brother, John Plummer of Fort Wayne. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the BriggsMerckx funeral home in Huntington, the Rev. Wallace Rummel officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery. Loot House Trailer, Billfold Recovered The sheriff’s department reported an entry to a house trailer on route 3, Decatur, on Saturday, and a young boy who was bitten by a dog "Friday night. ' A billfold was taken from the mobil home of Robert Tumbleson, of route 3, Decatur, but the article was recovered later by the sheriff’s department. The contents, of the wallet, however, had been stolen. They are continuing their investi-I gation. The 12-year-old son of Claude Monee, of Linn Grove, received a severe dog bite when he tried to chase a dog off the porch of the Monee residence. The boy started his rabies shots this morning. The brown mongrel dog is of medium length. Man Arrested For Public Intoxication City police arrested Clint Death, 69, of Bobo, this morning at 11 o’clock at the rear of 239 W. Monroe on a charge of public intoxicatin. Death will be arraigned in city court Tuesday at 9 a.m. He is | currently in jail. Go-Cart Drivers To Meet Thursday A meeting for all “go-cart” drivers will be conducted at the Hartford Center high school Thursday at 7 p.m. to form an association of drivers, according to Jack Meyer, acting president. Bedelia Shigley Dies At Bluffton Miss Bedelia Shigley, 55, niece of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Goodin of Decatur .died Sunday in the Wells county hospital after an extended illness. Miss Shigley, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Shigley, was a former employe of the state j unemployment department.

Rural Youth Club Sees Hockey Game * Nineteen Adams county rural youth members and guests witnessed the Fort Wayne Komets whip the Omaha Knights, 5-1, in Fort Wayne Saturday evening. J. <UPI> — William <Wid) Con toy, former third baseman-outfielder with four major league teams, died Sunday at Burlington County Hospital. Conroy, 81, had a lifetime batting average of .250 with Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, Washington and the old New York Highlanders. Missing Man's Body Is Found In Woods SAN PIERRE, Ind. <UPI) —The body of John Skriskus, 74, San Pierre, was discovered in a wooded area near here Sunday. Skriskus had been missing since early last month when fire leveled the home of Anna Milikent, where he had been staying. State Police said Skriskus apparently died of a combination of burns and exposure after running from the burning building into the nearby woods. Disorderly Conduct Charge Is Dismissed The case of disorderly conduct and assault and battery filed against Russell D. Hendricks by his wife. Madonna Hendricks, which was slated for mayors court this morning, was disunited on a motion by the plaintiff, Mrs. Hendricks. Hendricks had been arrested by sheriff’s deputies Dec. 5,„ and released on a SSO bond. District Meeting Is Held By Youth Eight persons from the First Christian church of Decatur attended the fifth district youth meeting Sunday at Van Buren. The Rev. Edward Pacha, district commissioner, and minister of the local church, conducted the major portions of the meeting. Marcia Jessup, Glenda Scheiderer, Sye Longsworth, Linda McClain. Allen Scheiderer. Jim Anderson, and Fred Scheiderer, besides Rey. Pacha, attended the meeting. More than 180 young persons from the district attended. The first portion of the meeting was divided into groups of Chi Rho, and Christian youth fellowship before the evening sessions. Included in the program were skits, worship, various youth reports, panel discussions, and dinner. The group will next meet Feb. 14.
