Plan Presentation Os Religious Drama An innovation in Christian aci tivittes will be developed in Decatur as the Association of Chris- ! tian churches will sponsor a continuing program of religious draI ma presentations. The Rgv. Edward Pacha, of the I First Christian church, will serve las chairman of the group. Rev. 1 Pacha reports that he has a nu- ! clous of workers, but is in dire need of more. He asserted that.all interested persons with any ability in music, lighting, stage and set designing, choreography, and act-
ing will be warmly welcomed to participate in the functions of the activity. Nucleus of Committee To date, Mr. and Mrs. Reid Erekson, Mrs. Clark Mayclin, Mrs. Pat Geimer, Miss Susan Custer. and James Webb are working with Rev. Pacha on the committee for the first drama, which will be ’’The Judas Coin." Several high school pupils have indicated an interest in this project and others are being asked to join in the project. Religious drama, as defined by Rev. Pacha, is a two-fold project, first, to provide the audience with entertainment of watdhing the drama, and second, to establish a closer relationship with the persons involved and God. He said that the presentations are not necessarily derived from biblical interpretations, but may be based on any current problem which is related to Christian life. Plays at Churches All the dramas will be portrayed in the churches of the association, but a definite plan has not been worked out at this date. Any interested persons are invited to contact Rev. Pacha for further information and details of the operation.

Vicious Crimes Are Reported As Increasing WASHINGTON (UPI) — FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover reported today that vicious crimes ; such as murder, rape, stabbings and violent assault are on the increase throughout the nation. Hoover declared that these terI roristic crimes have risen 7 per cent in the first nine months of this year even though the overall crime statistics dipped 1 per cent for the same period of 1958. Using figures reported by cities ’; of more than 25,000 population, ' the FBI chief stressed that murder showed an Increase of 4 per cent through September: forcible rape, 5 per cent, and aggravated I assault, 7 per cent. Only a decrease in "crimes against property such as larcen--1 ies, burglaries and auto thefts offset the increase, in “crimes ’ against persons,” Hoover said. He ’ termed the over-all 1 per cent ; general decrease "almost insignificant.”
Os non-violent crimes, Hoover said reports for the first nine months of the year showed a 7 per cent decrease in robberies, 2 per cent in burglaries, 1 per cent in auto theft, and 1 per cent in larcenies over SSO. But Hoover said: “Violent assaults against the person con-, tinue their upward climb.” A breakdown of crime statistics for 134 cities of more than 100,000 population showed New York and Chicago led the list of murder cities. 1 Births At the Adams county memorial hospital: Chester C. and Ruth H. Plan Hearings On, Payola Practices WASHINGTON (UPD—A feder . al communications commissicyier says radio and TV station owners who have condoned payola pay . ments to disc jockeys are in “seri ous jeopardy” of losing their li censes. Robert E. Lee said Sunday that underthetable payments to disc jockeys for playing certain rec ords or giving “sneak” commer cials are in direct violation of FCC regulations. ' Ignorance of these rules, he said, would not be accepted as an excuse from station owners^in es ’ forts to save their licenses. The House legislative oversight subcommittee, which aired TV quiz show rigging, will open hear ings next month on payola prac • tices. In discussing Payola, Lee said: ’ “I consider this a direct violation • of the Communications Act .. . which requires that sponsorship ’ be announced and this would put the station’s involved in serious jeopardy.” •The commissioner said however, ■ that various factors will be con sidered by the FCC in imposing penalties, including “the reason ableness of management in try

Ing to avoid these abuses.** Lee noted the FCC has jurisdic tlon only over the station owner, but added: "We do, however, re quire that he know what's going on.” On the subject of TV quiz scan dais, the FCC official said “in retrospect, I honestly say we should have moved faster.” He also reversed a previous stand and said he now believes Con gress should legislate to correct abuses revealed by House invest! gatorsI CHRISTMAS LAY AWAY ; on J CLOTHES S HAMPERS T.V.
