Astronauts Not Worried Over Escape LANGLEY FIELD, Va. (UP!)— The military test pilots chosen to be rocketed into orbit in America’s first space flights give the impression that man's escape from the planet can be accomplished without sweat or strain. Discussing “Project Jercury" in a joint interview with United Press International, four of the seven astronauts training here were as relaxed a college students, and were unable to think of major problems that remain unsolved. They said they didn’t want to give the impression that everything is completely satisfactory at this stage But what they mentioned were minor changes that may be made in the “hardware” and equipment for the first orbital flights. Test Pressure Suit The latest item to come under their study is a prototype pressure suit made by the Goodrich Company at Akron, Ohio. All seven of the astronauts have been fitted for this suit, and have tested jt in a “mock-up” for the orbital space capsule at the McDonnell Aircraft Co., St. Louis. Air Force Capt. Gordon Cooper said “we could go with it now,’’ but since there is time available small improvements may be made. The improvements are sought especially because of the possibility of an emergency in which the suit might have to be inflated. . That would occur automatically in flight if the space capsule were/ punctured by a meteor — one chance in a million—or for any other reason the cabin lost pressure. The suit would inflate to provide the pressure necessary in space to save the man’s life. Counteracts Space Weight Pressure is as necessary as oxygen to survival in space. Without some substitute for the atmosphere’s unusual weight, the human body would literally “explode,’’ in the way that some deep sea fish explode when brought to the surface. Cooper said the suit when inflated makes a man feel like a Paul Bunyan balloon man in a Christmas parade. “I doubt if you could walk in one of them, when it’s blown up,” said Lt. Cmdr. Alan B. Shepard Jr. He said something better will certainly he. needed when man lands on the moon and wants to explore beyond the landing site. For the first orbital flights, the astronauts will be lying on a couch fitted to their backs, and there is no conceivable requirement for walking But they would still like to improve their mobility for reaching instruments in split-second decisions should an emergency arise.

4-H Club Members Balk At Pressure WASHINGTON (UPD-Two top 4-H Club members balked today at government “pressure” to omit rock ‘n’ roll from their entertainment at the World Agriculture Fair in New Delhi, India, next month. But other youngsters on the eight-member troupe said the Indians probably wouldn’t dig that crazy beat, anyhow. “They wouldn’t even understand the term. They’d think we were talking about a stone and a piece of bread,” said Patricia Ann Bottomley, 19, df Winnebago, Minn. “And softer all, it’s just a passing fad-” There was a chance that the fair visitors would see some swing ‘n’ sway if not rock ‘n’ roll. Kay Emiko Mihata, 19, of Kailua, Hawaii, said she was going to take along her hula grass skirt. Kenneth C. Kehrer, 20, of Orange, Conn., said in an interview that Agriculture Department officials had advised the youths to agreed. He said rock ‘n* roll, tunes because they were “objectionable.” Kehrer, who has a disc jockey program at Williams College, disagreed. Hessaid rock ‘n’ roll, highly popular with U. S. teen agers, should be included in the farm group’s entertainment at the fair Dec. 11 through Feb- 14. He was backed up by attractive Nancy Ellen Nesbitt, 20. of Hobart, N.Y. “If we are to represent rural young America,” she said, rock ‘n’ roll should be included in the program. Phyllis Shirey To LaGrange County Phyllis Shirey, who has served as apprentice home demonstration agent in Adams county for three months, will receive her first permanent post Dec. 1. when she becomes the home demonstration agent at LaGrange in LaGrange county. Miss Shirey, who was graduated from Mtuncie Central high' school, and from Ball State Teacher's College in 1959 with a BS in home economics, will work with Riley Case, the county agent at LaGrange county. While serving the three - month stint here, she participated in the overall home demonstration program, assisting Miss Lois Folk, the Adams county home demonstration agent. Miss Shirey is the immediate past president of the rural youth club of Delaware county. Man Killed As Car Smashes Into Truck PETERSBURG, Ind. (UPD — Donald Oran Gray, 37, R.
