Sponsor Denies Knowing Quiz Show Rigged WASHINGTON (UPD — The sponsor of two big money TV Quiz shows today denied charges by two producers that he knew they were rigged and sometimes brought pressure to “control” the outcome of the contests. The denial was made before House investigators by Martin Revson, former vice president of the Revelon Cosmetics Co., who was assigned chief responsibility by the firm for supervising the two now defunct shows—“s64,ooo Question” and “$64,000 Challenge.” “We believed we had bought an honest show and we were convinced we had one,” Revson said. “I never once suggested that a particular contestant win or lose. It never entered my mind that the producer would control the losing or winning,” he testified. The investigating House subcommittee heard a different story Tuesday from Steven Carlin, executive producer of the two shows, and producer Mert Koplin who assisted him. Carlin and Koplin testified under oath that they believed the sponsor was aware that both shows were “controlled” and sometimes made “urgent” suggestions as to which contestants should lose and which should win. Identify Firm Spokesman They identified Martin Revson, brother of Charles Revson, president of the firm, as the chief spokesman for the sponsor at weekly meetings at which they received detailed suggestions as to how the shows would be conducted. Koplin said Martin Revson who left the lipstick and fingernail polish making firm in April, 1958, was the main spokesman at the sessions. For the 24-hour perfdd Which ended this morning, weather officials reported 1.6 inches of rain at Newberry. 1.4. at Anderson, and 1.25 at Winchester. Other cities and towns with about an inch or more precipitation included Muncie, Portland, Warsaw, Columbus, . Rushville, Shelbyville, and Scottsburg. Forecasters predicted additional rain and some thunderstorms in all sections through tonight, to be followed by colder Thursday and rain ending. But the latest five-day outlook called for more rain, most of it Sunday or Monday. Temperatures for the period through next Monday were expected to range 4 to 7 degrees below normal highs of 55 to 61 and lows of 31 to 35. “Turning colder Thursday and Friday, a little warmer Sunday or Monday,” the outlook said. Temperatures Tuseday ranged from 49 at South Bend to 60 at Evansville, and overnight readings stayed in the high 40’s rlw 50's. - Insurance Aaent To Open New Office Gordon Gregg, agent for the Lincoln National Life Insurance company. has opened a new office at 137 West Madison street in the Reppert building.
