COUNTY PAST PRESIDENTS HOLD ANNUAL BANQUET The annual fall banquet of the past presidents of Adams County Home Demonstration clubs was held Thursday evening at the cafeteria at the Berne school. The Friendship Village club served a turkey dinner. The donology was sung before the meal began and Miss Icel Shanks gave the devotions. Eighten clubs answered roll call and the minutes of the spring meeting were read. The nominating committee submitted the following names for officers: president, Mrs. Clifford Essex; vice president, Mrs. Noah Graber; secretary, Miss Helen Kenney; historian, Mrs. William Kohne. After the introduction of Miss Phylis Shirey, wttb has been an agent in training for the past two months at the Adams county office, months at the Adams county office, the Live and Learn club presented Adams county chorus sang several selections ana the meeting closed by the saying of the club collect. DINNER IS HELD SATURDAY EVENING The seventy-fifth birthday anniversary of Mrs. Ethel Krick of Monroeville was observed with a dinner Saturday evening at the Fairway Restaurant. Mrs. Ellenore Doehnke of Decatur, was also a special guest at the dinner. Friends of the pair served as hostesses for the affair. After a five course dinner had been served, Mrs. Krick was presented with a 75th anniversary cake that was decorated with dollar bills. Both women were sur- ‘ prised with the party. \ CHURCH WOMEN TO OBSERVE WORLD COMMUNITY DAY The Decatur Council of United Church Women will observe World Community Day Friday. The service will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be held at the Baptist church. The theme for the service is “Full Partners for Peace.’’ Mrs. Warren Lehman will be the leader. The Rev. B. G. Thomas of Bethany Evangelical United Brethren church will deliver the ’keynote speech. > The project for the meeting is collecting new and used layettes and clothing for small children. Clothing is to be brought to the service and will be dedicated at that time. The public is invited to attend and worship. autumn colors. Games were played and won by Mrs. Ed Marbach, Mrs. Lester Haines, and Mrs. Earl Yoder, who in turn presented the gifts to the bride. After Miss Becher opened her many gifts, refreshments were served by the hostesses. Present for the affair were Mrs. Noble Lobsiger, Mrs. Allen Girod, Mrs. James Lobsiger, Mrs. Robert Amstutz, Miss Riith Sipe, Mrs. Lester Haines, Mrs. David Smith, Mrs. Savilla Habegger. Those unable to attend, but sending gifts were: Mrs. Norman Becher, Mrs. Raymond Becher, Mrs. Ted Pyles ; and Mrs. James Taylor. PARISH HALL TO BE SCENE OF DINNER Zion Lutheran ladies will be busy all day tomorrow at the parish hall baking pies, frying chicken and baking hams for the annual dinner to be served from 4:30 to 7 p.m. The Mesdames Henry Krueckeberg. Ray McDougal, and Don Burke are being assisted by a large grouo of workers throughout the day. Mrs. Wm. Porter. Mrs. Lee Fleming, and Mrs. Karl Reinking will have charge of decorating the dining room and serving the guests. They will have a group of young ladies who will be stationed near the serving line to assist youngsters with their trays. Guests are invited to inspect the candy, handwork, market and Concordia gift booths. Children will be favored by the fish pond and movies. Everyone is invited to come. ROOT TOWNSHIP FARM BUREAU PLANS DINNER The Root Township Farm Bureau meeting and the 4-H achievement night will be held Monday at 6:30 p.m., at the Monmouth school gym. A family pot-luck dinner will be served. The Farm Bureau will furnish turkey, rolls, and drinks. Members of the Farm Bureau and 4-H clubs are asked to bring a covered dish and their own table service. All Root township Farm Bureau members, 4-H club members, and their families are invited. DRAMATIC SECTION MEETS AT BOWER HOME MONDAY Roll call was answered by twehey members of the Dramatic section of the Decatur Woman’s club, which was held at the home of Mrs. Ferris Bower Monday night. The program opened with a pre- | sentation of a of the ! theaters used during William Shakespeare’s era, by Mrs. Denzil Dowell. Mrs. James Bleke gave a biography of Shakespeare, which was followed by Mrs. Reid Erekson’s dramatic presentation of “Macbeth.” The meeting ended with refreshments served by the committee, Mrs. Denzil Dowell, Mrs. Reid Erekson, and Mrs. . James Bleke. The Welcome Wagon club will meet at 7:30 Monday at the home of Mrs. Kenneth Shannon. Members are to bring fruit, cookies, or crushed candy for the county home. David Ellsworth, who was seriously injured in an auto accident several months ago, has been returned to the home of his parents after being in Parkview hospital at Fort Wayne. His mother, Mrs. Francis Ellsworth, reports that his condition is improved. Herbert and Rose Fullenkemp have returned to Florida after spending four months in the north visiting relatives. Their itinerary included two months at Lake George, three weeks in Lake City, la., two weeks in Findley, 0., and two weeks in Falls Church, Va. Fred V. Mills, well known retired Decatur businessman, arrived from Greencastle Monday night to cast his ballot in today’s city election. Mrs. Elsie Enyart, of Fowler, Mrs. Ed Bartaway, and her daughter, Mrs. Vernon Armstrong, of Wabash, visited Monday with Mrs. Florence Baumann. Judge G. Remy Bierly, of the Indiana appellate court, returned to Decatur Monday to be present for the election Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. William Linn visited over the weekend at the Dale Elzey cottage at Lake James.

At 2 p.m. Monday, a baby girl was born to Bernard and Connie Roe Lehman. The infant weighed six pounds, 10 ounces, and has been named Shaun Ann. Mr. and Mrs. Lehman are residents of Fort Wavne. Russell and Agnes Kolter Moser, route one, Decatur, announce the adoption of a baby daughter born September 28. She has been named Myra Darlene. Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Bowers, Jr., of Lafayette, are parents of an eight and one-half pound girl, born Sunday evening at St. Elizabeth's hospital. The baby has been named Dana Leslie. At the Adams county memorial hospital: Gerald and Irene Heiman Grove route six, are parents of an eight pound, six ounce girl, born at 3:01 p.m. Monday. A girl, weighing seven pounds. 14 ounces, was born to Harold and Hilda Meicle Brown, 518 West Madison, at 10:41 p.m. Monday. Noelan and Pat Herst Salway, route 5, are parents of a boy born at 1:40 a.m. today, weighing eight pounds, 13 ounces. A girl, weighing seven pounds. 10 ounces, was born to Vernon and Mary Ellen Haugh Adams, 424 Boyd Ave., Van Wert, at 9:55 a.m. today. Girl Scouts Troop 269 met Monday afternoon in the Girl Scout room at the Youth and Community Center. The meeting opened with a flag ceremony, after which roll call and dues were taken. Minutes of the last meeting' were read and Marsha Sheets gave the treasurer’s report. The grouy then divided into four patrols and later received their nut order blanks. Firemen Are Called Out To Leaf Fire A leaf fire at 346 Oak street Monday night brought out the Decatur fire department to extinguish the blaze with no damage being reported. This morning the city street department was out with leaf sweeping equipment to curb further outbreaks of the annual fall disturbance. The fire truck went out at 10:50 p.m. and was back at 11:05 p.m., disposing of the task in short order.
