An announcement of the engagement was made this morning by the bride-elect’s mother. Mrs. Margaret C. McKean of 109 South Eleventh street. Mrs. Myrtle Jones of 904 Dierkes street, is the mother of the prospective bridegroom. Miss McKean is a graduate of Decatur high school and is presently employed in the office of the General Electric company of Decatur. Upon graduating from Decatur high school, Jones attended International Business College and Ball State Teachers ' college. He is an employe of International Harvester at Fort Wayne.

After a short business meeting, the members worked on various projects. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Harold Myers and Mrs. Charles Rhoades, Mrs. Gerald Gerig offered the closing prayer. Evangelical and Reformed church, who met in the church social rooms. i Mrs. Tony Meyer was leader for the afternoon and presented a book review on “Concerns of a Continent.” Elmer Lautenschleger played a group of sacred piano numbers. An election of officers was held during the business meeting that was presided over by Mrs. Meyer. Mrs. Tony Meyer is the new chairman, Mrs. Floyd Shoaff, vice chairman, Mrs. Ermel Johnson, secretary, and Mrs. James Baker, treasurer. Twenty two members and one guest were served refreshments during the social hour, by Charles Beineke, Mrs. James Baker, and Mrs. Emel Johnson. MANY DISPLAYS TO BE SHOWN AT LUTHERAN FAIR Handwork and handicraft of all kinds will be displayed for sale Wednesday afternoon when the ladies of Zion Lutheran church stage their annual fair and supper, which begins at 4:30 p.m. The Mesdames Herman Dierkes, Louis Webert, Sr., and Bernard Schultz will be in charge at this booth. Already many colorful aprons, candles, stuffed toys, winter bouquets, etc. have been promised. The children will enjoy the fish pond being arranged by Mrs. Roland Miller and Mrs. Walter Bauer. Steve Jacobs and Zane Zwick will Be in charge of the movie room, and Jane Jacobs will make the hot popcorn for the show. The public is invited to the chicken or ham supper served beginning at 4:30 and also to gift shop at the various booths.
HOME DEMONSTRATION LESSON ON THURSDAY The Home Demonstration special interest lesson on Christmas candies will be held Thursday from 1:30 to 4 p.m. The meeting will be held in the cafeteria of the Berne school. Miss Jo Marie Walsh, consumer education agent from Allen county, will show how to display food for Christmas gifts. Miss Walsh will also demonstrate some techniques of candy making. Those attending the meeting are asked to bring uncooked foundant, food coloring, wax paper, small plastic bags, whole cloves, confectioner’s sugar, and a box for the finished product. ’ Following the meeting the group will have an opportunity to sample and obtain recipes of several different kinds of candies. HIRSCHY MARRIED 45 YEARS A family dinner served at the Cozy Corner restaurant in Geneva, commemorated the 45th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Hirschy of route 6. Sunday. The celebrating couple were married November 1, 1914, at the home of Mrs. Hirschy’s parents. The Rev. S. S. Sprunger read the vows. Attending the special dinner yesterday were children and grandchildren of the couple. Mr and Mrs. Kenneth Hirschy, Eddie, Doreen, Gillie, of Decatur; Dr. and Mrs. H. L. Grossnickle, Allen and Ted, of Wabash; Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Pietrarioe. KIRKLAND LADIES CLUB MEETS TUESDAY EVENING The Adams Central school was the scene of the meeting of the Kirkland Ladies club Tuesday. The meeting was opened by the president, i Mrs. Harold Henchen. Following the history and leading of the song of the month by Mrs. Ella Scherry, the treasurer and secretary’s report was read and approved. BRYAN W. LEHMAN CLAIMS BRIDE SATURDAY The Rev. Phil L. Stephens performed the ceremony which united in marriage Miss Ellen Scott and Byran W. Lehman at 6:30 p.m., Saturday. Lighted tapers and bouquets of bronze and White chrysanthemums adorned the altar for the wedding scene in the Waynedale Methodist church. Wedding music was presented by Mrs. Jay Brydon, organist. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Eugene E. Scott, Waynedale, and Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Lehman, 1315 West Monroe street. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a ballerina length gown of nvlon lace and tulle, designed with a fitted bodice, full sleeves, and a Queen Ann collar trimmed with sequins. The bouffant skirt of tulle was highlighted bv a wide band of nylon lace. Her veil of illusion was held by a crown of pearls and sequins and she carried a bouquet of white pompoms. Serving as her sister’s honor attendant was Mrs. Claren Steiner, who was attired in a gown of cnral silk organza with full elbow sleeves. Her matching hat was ■ made of a band of velvet and taffeta leaves and she carried a .bouauet of bronze chrysanthe mums. Claren Steiner, Linn Grove, srved s best man and groomsmen were Orville Bergman, Bryant, and Claude Striker, Berne. Mrs. Scott chose a blue dress and "navy was the ensemble of the bridegroom’s mother. Both wore corsages of bronze chrysanthemums. A reception in the Susanna Weslev Hall followed the ceremony. After their wedding trio, Mr. and Mrs Lehman will live at 7214 Beaty Avenue, Waynedale.
“HUMAN RELATIONS” IS TOPIC USED BY MISS KOONTZ "Human Relations,” was the topic presented by Miss Marion Koontz at a recent meeting of the Women's Associaion of the First Presbyterian church. The speaker discussed the need for faith “so that the spirit of God within us will help us in our relationships with others.” Mrs. Robert Gay, president of the Association, opened the meeting with a reading from the charter of Christian action, and the world book of prayer. “ A business meeting was conducted by the president and the budget for 1960 approved. Improvements were suggested by Mrs. Roland Ladd, chpirpnan of. the manse improvement cdmmit-| tee. Mrs. David Langstop, chair-1 rnan of the ways and means cofti- j mitte, announced that fair pledges 1 were to be paid at the November, circle meeting or before December 1. Mrs. W. L. Harper, world serv-j ice chairman, explained the Christmas project, sending gifts to Indiana neighborhood houses. The circle leaders' for 1960 read names of their members, after which the constitution committee composed of Miss Francis Dugan, Mrs. H. J. Bond, Mrs. W. W. Cravens, and Mrs. W. L. Harper, presented a revised constitution. The meeting adjourned after the Mizpah benediction and members of the Martha circle served refreshments. The P.T.A. Singing Mothers, will meet Tuesday at 7:30 o'clock in the Lincoln school auditorium. Mrs. G. Medford Smith will be hostess for members of the St. Girard study club Wednesday at 8 o’clock. The regular monthly meeting of the Monroe Methodist Women’s Society of Christian Service members will be held Thursday at 7:25 o’clock in the church annex. Thursday at 7:30 o’clock, members of the Ladies Aid of the Trinity E.U.BM. church will meet at the church. Friday and Saturday, a rummage sale will be held in the basement of the First Methodist church. Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Offerle and son Ed, of Fort Wayne, were Saturday evening guests of Arthur Kleinhenz. Mr. and Mrs. Rolland Gilliom and children Barbara and Jon moved Saturday into their new home located on highway 224 just northeast of the Union Chapel road intersection. Mr. and Mrs, Tom Drew of Columbia City aided them in the move. Mrs Thurman Drew, deputy county auditor, was released from the Adams county memorial hospital Sunday following surgery 10 days ago. She will rest at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Marge Gilliom, for a few days. Dr. and Mrs. , Cyril Taylor of Indianapolis were Sunday callers at the home of the Gillioms. Mrs. Taylor is the former Nancy Drew of Geneva. Arthur Suttles, Jr., spent the weekend in Chicago on business and Sunday attended the Cardin-als-Pittsburgh game. Harold Venis, formerly of Bluffton and until Saturday connected with the Wayne Cooperative Producers, Inc., in Fort Wayne, terminated his duties there, and will now sell stocks, bonds, and other securities in the Fort Wayne area. Byrd, has ordered the juvenile hearing on 15-year-old Gary Reff, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Milo Ref, of Uniondale, open to the public at 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13. The boy operated a car without a license Sept. 17 in the two-car crash fatal to five persons. Mr. and Mrs. Lawr'ence Beal, Jane and Pat, Butch Moser of Berne, and Mrs. James Murphy attended dad's day at Ball State Teachers College Saturday, visited with Robert Murphy, freshman, and William Beal, sophomore. Jack Daniels visited his brother, Larry Daniels, at Muncie, Saturday where the latter is a freshman at Ball State Teachers college. The Ball State Cardinals lost in the dad’s day game to St. Joseph of Rensselaer team, 22 to 8. Miss Bobbilou Butler of Decaur was majorette and Miss Linda Reidenbach was majorette mascot. Mrs. Lawrence Linn, Miss Anna Sue Miller, and Mrs. Norma Jean Wjjson attended the seventh annual miracle of books fair in Chicago Saturday. They accompanied a large group of Saint Francis College students. The ly being held in the museum of science and industry building and will continue through November 8. Mr. and Mrs. Bryce Thomas spent the weekend in Cincinnati. Mrs. Theodore McClintock of Indianapolis visited her mother, Mrs. Charles Teeple, last week. Mr. and Mrs. Ward Calland left Saturday for Virginia. They will remain in Virginia several months and will visit their daughter, Mrs. Charles Camp, and grandchildren while there.
