Wally Moon Is Only Dodger On All Stars NEW YORK (UPI) — Wally Moon, who staged a fine comeback after a 1958 flop, was the only member of the world champion Los Angeles Dodgers named today to the United Press International’s 1959 National League All-Star team. » The 24-man committee, made up of three baseball experts from each city, in the league, selected four members of the second-place Milwaukee Braves, two stars each from the San Francisco Giants and Cincinnati Reds and one Chicago Cub to round out a 10-man squad. The team boasts two 21gariie winners and a .309 team batting average. Selected from the Braves were catcher Del Crandall, slugging third-baseman Ed Mathews, batting champ Hank Aaron and pitcher Lew Burdette.' Outfielder Willie Mays and 21-game winner Sain Jones were picked from the Giants, first-baseman Frank Robinson and second-baseman Johnny Tempe were the Reds selected and shortstop Ernie Banks was the Cub honored. Robinson and Orlando Cepeda of the Giants finished with 10 votes each in the balloting for first base but the tie was resolved in favor of Robinson because he also received five votes as an outfielder. Jones and Burdette compiled identical 21-15 records and each pitched four shutouts. Each of the eight regulars played in at least 145 games, only one batted less than .300 and they totaled 248 homers — or an average of 31 apiece for the season. The complete voting position-by-position: Catcher: Del Crandall, Braves (21), Smokey Burgess, Pirates (2), Ed Bailey, Reds (1). First-Baseman: Frank Robinson, Reds, and Orlando Cepeda, Giants (10 each), Joe Cunningham, Cardinals (2), Joe Adcock, Braves and Gil Hodges, Dodgers (1 eadi)-Second-Baseman: Johnny Temple, Reds (15), Charlie Neal, Dodgers (8), Don Blasingame, Cardinals (1). Shortstop: Ernie Banks, Cubs 123), Johnny Logan, Braves <®. Third-Baseman: TEd Mathews, Braves (18), Ken Boyer, Cardinals (6). Outfielders: Hank Aaron, Braves and Willie Mays. Giants (23 each), Wally Moon, Dodgers (10), Robinson, Reds and Vada Pinson, (5 each), Joe Cunningham, Cardinals (4), Gus Bell, Reds and Duke Snider, Dodgers (1 each). Pitchers’ Sam Jones, Giants (21), Lew Burdette, Braves (12), Warren Spahn, Braves (9), Elroy Face, Pirates and Johnny Antonelli, Giants (3 each).

Junior High To Play New Haven Monday The Decatur junior high football team will play a return match with New Haven’s counterparts Monday evening at the New Haven gridiron at 7 o’clock. The action will be the first and last pway game for the unbeaten Decatur team. The local squad dumped the Bulldogs in a previous contest at Worthman field a couple of weeks ago by a 13-0 count, and have since skunked Columbia City, 39-0. The team has shown steady improvement each week, but according to reports, so has New Haven. Howe Military Academy edged the Bulldogs by one touchdown and the Bulldogs also beat Angola in their last outing. Stress Physical Condition "Die coaching staff has stressed physical conditioning the past week, going on the belief that the team is capable of beating anyone by carrying out their assignments, if they are in top physical shape. Most of the time in the regular afternoon drills is given to calisthentics to toughen up the young Yellow Jacket prospects. The play of linemen Steve Hazelwood, Nat Gonzales, Manny Ybarra, Jerry Egley, Kenny Riffle, to name but. a few, has given thfe local team a good rock rib defense. Coupled with the defensive play of regular offensive starters Ed Kohne, Manny Gonzales, Bill Smith, Joe Hess, Max Elliott, Dick Ortiz, amongst the many, the coaching staff feels that if a peak mental outlet can be reached by Monday, the team will not be scored on this season. Backs Seem Slow The offensive alignment will be given considerable attention the remainder* of the week as the club has looked ragged in spots in earlier sessions this week. The backfield seems to be a step slow in hitting the prescribed holes and downfield blocking leaves much to be desired. The best offensive display of the team this week has been the air arms of Kohne, Elliott, who will alternate at fullback with Kohne, Dave Anspaugh and Johnny Custer. While the gains are consistently good for short yardage, the backfield faking could produce gains. Chicago Cubs Revamp Major League Roster CHICAGO (UPD—The Chicago Cubs today revamped their major league roster, bringing up seven farm team players and selling seven who were with the team this season. Sold outright to the Fort Worth farm club were pitchers Ed Donnelly. Morrie Martin and Marcelino Solis, catcher Gorden Massa, and infielders Bill Gabler, Don Faddy and John Goryl.

Minneapolis Offers Senators Guarantee I MINNEAPOLIS (UPD—A group of Minneapolis businessmen stepped up efforts today to lure the Washington Senators away from the nation’s capital. Gerald Moore said he headed a group of business leaders that offered the Senators a guaranteed annual attendance of 750,000 if the club moves to Minneapolis. Moore acknowledged discussions were “only in the preliminary stage” but said the next move is up to Cal Griffith, owner of the Senators. Details of the Minneapolis offer were not disclosed but Moore said they were similar to those in other cities that recently acquired major league franchises. “We guaranteed about the same financial arrangement with the county as the Milwaukee Braves have with Milwaukee County,” Moore said. The Braves give the county a percentage of gate and concession receipts. Moore said one stumbling block appeared to be the indemnities he would have to pay the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgets who own the Minneapolis and Paul American Association teams. “I think the indemnities have been raised rather high,” Moore said. “They seem to me to be considerably higher than those set by precedent and most of the estimates I’ve heard are out of the question“But that’s his problem, not mine. We’re anxious to get going. We’ve been after the Senators since 1957, after losing the Giants and. Indians.”

Rams Slight Favorites To Beat Packers , f I ; . By EARL WRIGHT United Press International The Los Angeles Rams are three-point favorites to smash the National Football League's only remaining perfect record Sunday when they tackle the Green Bay Packers at Milwaukee. Los Angeles is favored although it dropped two of its first three games while Green Bay, surprise team of the campaign, swept its first three starts. In another key Western Divisoin game, the champion Baltimore Colts (2-1) are slim, one-point choices for their game with the Bears (1-2) at Chicago. Hie Lions (0-3) are favored over the San Francisco Forty-Niners (2-1) by two points at Detroit in the other Western Division clash. The New York Giants are Sunday’s heaviest favorites. They are 6% point choices to whip the Eagles at New York although they took a 49-21 walloping from the Eagles two weeks ago at Philadelphia. Steelers-Redskins Even New York, Philadelphia and the Washington Redskins are tied for the Eastern Division lead with 2-1 records. The Redskins and Pittsburgh Steelers (1-2) are rated even for their game, at Washington. In the other Eastern Division pairing, the Browns (1-2) are 4% point choices to beat the Chicago Cardinals (1-2) at Cleveland. Green Bay has been winning with a good defense that has allowed only 36 points, an average of 12 a game, in defeating the Bears, Lions and Forty-Niners. The Rams, who feature longrange offensive power, are favored over Green Bay although Bill Wade, their No. 1 quarterback, has a knee injury which may hamper him. Wade likes to fire long passes to Jim Phillips and Del Shofner Jon Arnett, his other top target, is injured. The Packers also must stop Ollie Matson, who cracked the Bear line for 199 yards during a 28-21 Ram triumph last Sunday. Unitas Off Target John Unitas, Baltimore's passer, has been off target with some of his throws this season. Ray Berry and Lenny Moore, two of his key receivers, have been hampered by injuries but should be in better shape for the clash. with the Bears. t. wit Plum. Cleveland’s quarterBtiqk, ha? a bruised chest aad fr gash on his ankle but will play against the Cardinals. Philadelphia and New York are in good physical condition for their Yankee Stadium game. Tommy McDonald of the Eagles, top target for Norm Van Brocklin's passes and the league’s leading scorer this season with 30 points, suffered a hard blow on the face in last week’s game with Pittsburgh but X-rays revealed no fracture. He’ll play.
