Bluffton Firms To Suffer By Strike Bluffton industries dependent upon steel materials or markets related to the steel industry are about three weeks away from crippling effects of the 91-day-old steel strike, it was learned here today. Company officials in Bluffton indicated that Bluffton will suffer now even though the workers returp. Even businesses not tied to the basic steel industry will be hurt. Franklin Hurt Franklin Electric, which employs 837 people in the production will be hurt, since the strike has of fractional horsepower motors, continued well into October. In July they estimated that they had steel to last until about the end of the month. Almco Steel, Products Corp., in Bluffton is endeavoring to stretch its supplies to provide full employment for its 25 workers. But it has received no orders past Nov. 1 from car manufacturers. Kitco Engineering and Manufacturing Co. will also be hurt by cutbacks in auto production, which use the molded rubber products of- - company’s present 45 workers. Stretching Steel Houser Engineering and Manufacturing Co has launched an austerity program to stretch its supply of steel, and keep its 19 employes busy making auto replacement parts and accessories. Sterling Casting Corp., which employs 140 to manufacture grey iron castings, has a two-month inventory of pig-iron and draws much of its supply fromp the scrap metal industry. Belle City Engineering has been more affected by the low price of hogs. The company employs 17 to manufacture farm feed mixers. Red Cross Manufacturing Co., which employs 41, has steel to last until the end of the year for making pontoons for sports boats and farm equipment. The strike will also affect the consumer, and therefore greatly upset retailers and other manufacturers not directly hit by the strike. > Annual Farm Bureau Meeting October 23 A chicken barbecue has been planned by the Adams county Farm Bureau, for their annual meeting to be served at the Adams Central school gymnasium.
