WREN HIGH-JUNIOR HIGH LISTS CLASS OFFICERS Class officers for 1959-60 at the Wren Village school were chosen recently. Results list the officers as: Seventh grade: Michael Kiehl, president; Richard Fegley, vice president; Rita Kay Hurless, secretary and treasurer. MISS PHYLLIS BIBERSTEIN HONORED WITH SHOWER Miss Phyllis Biber stein, brideelect of John Fuhrman, was honored with a bridal shower Monday evening at the Preble recreation center, with the Misses Lila and Linda Kruetzman and Mrs. Dale Brandt as hostesses. Gifts for the future bride were placed on a table with pink and green streamers hanging from a pink sprinkling can suspended above. Upon her arrival. Miss Biberstein was presented with a corsage made of kitchen articles. A contest on cooking was won by Mrs. Norval Fuhrman, and Miss Georgianna Essex won a nursery rhyme headline contest. Other contests were won by Miss Dorthey Geyer and Mrs. Fuhrman. All prizes won, were given to Miss Biberstein. Refreshments of nuts and mints, cake roll and punch were served to the Misses Georgianna Essex, Dorthey Geyer, Bernice* Yager, Luanne Hoffman. MISS BETTE SIMERMAN’S ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED Mr. and Mrs. John Simerman, 921 North Thirteenth, street, announce the engagement of their only daughter, Bette Lou, to Martin Eugene Bullinger, son of Mrs. Marshall Mclntosh of rural route 2, Monroeville, and Laurence Bullinger of Lima, Ohio. Miss Simerman is now attending Fort Wayne Beauty college in Fort Wayne and her fiance is employed by Decatur Industries. No definite date has been set for the wedding. MRS. W. R. MORRIS OPENS EAGLES MEETINGS A meeting of the Eagles Auxiliary was held recently at the Eagles hall with president, Mrs. W. R. Morris, opening the meeting, Mrs. Ray Vcnis attended the flag, and Mrs. Robert Witham offered a prayer. During the business meeting, members made plans to help finance the F. O. E. state project Hoosier boy’s town. The local Auxiliary will also help sponsor Eagles house in Manila which is for wayward boys. Mrs. Robert Witham and Mrs. Evelyn Spangler served refreshments during the social hour. Members were reminded that district number 5 will be held in Fort Wayne, October 24. The next regular meeting will be October 13 at 8 o’clock and ritual practice will be held Tuesday at 8 o’clock. LUTHERAN P.T.L. TO MEET SUNDAY EVENING The Zion Lutheran Patent Teachers League will hold their first meeting Sunday at 7 o’clock since being newly organized last spring. ■rte P. T. L. is intended for all members and friends of Zion Lutheran church and not only for the teachers and parents of children in the Christian day school. Operations of the parochial school and church Sunday school department will be the main points

of interest at the Sunday meeting. Miss Evelyn Nussbaum will give a demonstration of a typical school day with her second grade pupils. She will show the methods of teaching in school today and Mrs. WiHiam Justice will demonstrate how the Sunday, schools are taught. The officers have stated that there will be a nursery provided for any children during the meeting. COUNTY GIRL SCOUT PLANS ARE MADE AT MEETING Plans for county wide Girl Scout activities were made at a recent meeting of the Decatur and Berne leaders association. Neighborhood 602. The first of these events will take place Saturday, October 17, when all troops will gather at Hanna-Nuttman park for an afternoon of cookouts, sports, and outdoor crafts. A vesper ceremonial at the altar fireplace which was built by the Girl Scouts during the June day camp, will conclude the program held in honor of the birthday of the founder, Juliette Gordon Lowe. Other Scout events are the calendar and peanut sales in November and carolling at Christmas time. Details of these activities will be reported as soon as plans are complete. October 8, the next leaders’ club meeting will be held in the Girl Scout room at the Community Center. The meeting will begin at 1:30 o’clock. A progfam on troop records and supplies will be presented by Mrs. Lowell Harper. All leade s and co-leaders are urged to attend. SUNNY CIRCLE CLUB MEETS AT PREBLE Miss Eldora Bultemeier and Mrs. Richard Scheiman were hostesses recently for members of the Sunny Circle Home Demonstration club. President, Mrs. Erwin Buuck, opened the meeting with the club commandments, after which Mrs. Elmer Peters gave the history of the song of the month and led the group in singing. Mrs. A. Ferner was in charge of the memorial service for Mrs. Caroline Peck. Eighteen members answered roll call and the secretary, treasurer, and sunshine reports were read and approved. An election of officers was held and representing the club as president will be Mrs. Robert Beery. Vice president is Mrs. Clara Fuhrman and secretary and treasurer are Mrs. Arthur North and Miss Eldora Bultemeier, respectively. Alternate leaders are Mrs. Arthur Koeneman and Mrs. Marvin Conrad. The October meeting will be in the form of a hard times party, it was announced at the recent meeting. After a lesson had been given by Miss Bultemeier and Mrs. Arnold Ertcleben, devotions were given by Mrs. Richard Scheiman. The meeting closed with the club creed.

(UPD — A “mild” earthquake cracked ceilings, broke dishes and startled thousands of Californians Wednesday night, but apparently caused no severe damage. There were no casualties from the tremor, which was felt from San Francisco to Los Angeles. The shock apparently was centered in the Lompac-Santa Maria area. Charleston Rocked By Three Blasts CHARLESTON, S. C. (UPD — Historic Charleston, still reeling from Tuesday’s punch from Hurricane Gracie, was rocked early today by three explosions in the Standard Oil Refinery storage area. The blasts injured nine persons, none critically. “Fortunately, we think the fire is being brought under control,” Charleston County Police Sgt. Johnny Smart said.
