LOCALS .. Victor C. Graber, Saturday, was admitted, to the Lutheran hospital in Fort Wayne for treatment. He was on a business trip to Chicago when he became ill and on his return to Fort Wayne he was taken directly to the hospital. Mr. Graber has not been feeling well for some time. He was reported somewhat improved yesterday.

Yesterday the entire Neuenschwander family enjoyed a dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Neuenschwander. Marvin Biery and his roommate, Douglas Holley of Great Lakes Bible College at Lansing, Michigan visited over the week end with the former’s mother and brother, Mrs. Frances Biery and” David of Geneva. .. |

Mr. and Mrs. Howard Sprunger who are vacationing in the western states, were luncheon guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Van Wulliman and daughter Kim, Denver, Colorado. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Beitler of Fort Wayne visited relatives in this community on Sunday. Rodney Schwartz, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Simon Schwartz and a junior in the Berne-French high school, Sunday afternoon submitted to an appendectomy at the Adams County Memorial hospital. He became ill Saturday night. Rodney is lost to the (baseball team for the balance of the season and may miss some of the early games on the basketball schedule. He is in room 351. Rev. and Mrs. Archie Graber and daughter Nancy arrived in Berne Saturday and spent the week end here. They arrived in New York Tuesday on a furlough from their missionary work in the Congo Beige, Africa. They visited with Rev. Graber’s family at Stryker, Ohio, before coming to Berne. Mrs. Graber is the former Erma Beitler, daughter of Fred Beitler, and made her home for many years with Mr. and Mrs. Ed Beitler of Linn Grove. While on furlough, the Grabers will reside in Fort Wayne. Russell Myers and daughter Debbie, Mr. and Mrs. Alphie Bertsch and son Alan and Mr. and Mrs. Clair Christener and sons Sheldon and Kendrick spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Keyes and family of Edgerton, Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. .Nelson Strahm and Daisy and Mr. and Mrs. Amos Habegger and Miss Barbara Habegger motored to Elkhart Sunday to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Strahm and family. Miss Barbara remained to spend some time in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Strahm. E. D. Lehman, the Mesdames Loretta Blackwood, Ellen Sprunger and Bertha Lehman, and the Misses Elvira and Erna Lehman visited with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Goodrich in Battle Creek, Michigan, on Saturday. Mrs. Goodrich is a sister and aunt of the local people; Mr. and Mrs. Richard E.j Manley Os Battle Creek, Michigan, were week-end guests in the Ed Schlagenhauf home and alio visited with other relatives and from. Taylor university are Roxanne Sprungpty kfaxine Steury, Doveanna Nussbaum, Wayne Amstutz, Robert Biberstein, Mike Collier, and Mike Zehr. Pfc. and Mrs. Lawrence J. Neuen were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Don Neuen of Indianapolis a few days during Mr. Neuen’s furlough from Fort Sheridan. Mr. and Mrs. Don Neuen came to Berne on Sunday with the Lawrence Neuens and visited in the Lee Neuen home.

I EDGAR LEHMANS HONORED Members of the Good Neighbors Home Demonstration club and their husbands enjoyed a dinner Saturday night at the Fairway restaurant in Decatur in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Lehman who are planning to move to Florida soon where Mr. Lehman will be employed. Mis. Lehman is a member of the club and Mr. and Mrs. Lehman were presented with a nice gift from the group. Those present at the dinner in Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Flueckiger and sons moved to an apartment at 206‘,4 W. Main St. from their former home in Linn Grove Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Diller of Bluffton, Ohio were dinner guests of Henry Reusser yesterday. Mrs. Diller is a granddaughter of Mr. Reusser. Mr. and Mrs. Steven Stucky and baby daughter of Indianapolis visited over the week end with their parents and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Stucky and Mrs. Helen Flueckiger. Mr. and Mrs. Ermin Sullin of Wauseon, Ohio were the house guests of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Kauffman over the week end. Mrs. E. R. Liechty and Mrs. Irvin Hirschy motored to Marion Friday to visit Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sprunger and family. Mr. and Mrs. Don Gentis and Mrs. Norman Clauser of Fort Wayne visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Richard Lehman and family. Dr. and Mrs. Freeman Burkhalter and Mr. and Mrs. Art Habegger attended a football game between Taylor University and Defiance College at Upland Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Menno Nussbaum attended the Elmhurst high school reunion in Fort Wayne on Sunday evening. Mrs. Nussbaum, a graduate, represented the Latin class in the program “This Is Your Life” for Miss Letha Falls, a member of the Elmhurst faculty since the school was built in 1932. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Muselman entertained for dinner and supper yesterday, the Clinton Steury and Carl Muselman families, honoring those with birthdays in September. Those were Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Steury, daughter Rhonda Lou and sons David and Steven, and John and Thomas Muselman, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Muselman. Lester Reynolds, who has been in the Adams County Memorial hospital in Decatur for many weeks, remains about the same. Mr. Reynolds, a former school teacher, is in room 338. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Winteregg of Monroe and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Winteregg motored to Bluffton, Ohio Saturday to visit with Emma Baumgartner at the Mennonite Home in Bluffton, Ohio. Rev. and Mrs. A. J. Neuenschwander of Wadsworth, Ohio, are visiting here since Sunday and are the house guests of their sister-in-law, Mrs. Emanuel Neuenschwander. Dr. and Mrs. H. E. Dester of the Greencastle community, visited here on Sunday, the guests of Mrs. O. F. Gilliom. Palmer Moser, who submitted to‘ surgery at Parkview Memorial hospital at Fort Wayne last Tuesday, was dismissed and brought to his home here during the week end. He is making satisfactory recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Dubach spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Peter Stucky and Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Stucky at Flanagan, Illinois. Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Steury of Amhurst, Ohio, visited on Sunday with Mr. Steury’s mother, Mrs. Anna Steury, who is staying in the home of Mr. and Mrs. V. C. Graber. She has not been well for some time but is improved.

The group ate supper at the Dutch Mill, Bluffton, then returned to the Lehman home here where games were played and refreshments served. Guests helping Miss Lehman celebrate her birthday were Carolyn Gerber, Marjorie Neuenschwander, Virginia Lantz, Willa Graber, Jane Brewster, Sherrill Sprunger, Nancy Felber, Connie Herman, Lois Neuen and Rita and Deanna Wulliman. SCHWARTZ REUNION The second annual Jacob Schwartz family reunion was held Friday evening in the lodge at the Wells County State Forest. A carry-in dinner was enjoyed after which the evening was spent in visiting. The only two local survivors of Mr. and Mrs. Schwartz, David J. Schwartz and Mrs. David J. Mazelin, were among those attending. Officers for next year are Leonard Schwartz, president; Simon Schwartz, vice-pres.; and Mrs. Carl Baxter, the former Ruth Mazelin, of Decatur, secre-tary-treasurer. BOYS LEAGUE OF THE FIRST MENNONITE CHURCH MEETS The first meeting of the season for the Boys League of the First Mennonite church was held at the Wells County State Park Friday evening for supper. After supper Rev. Gerald Stucky showed pictures and spoke about South America. There were 66 boys present and 10 sponsors from the Men’s Fellowship of the First Mennonite church. JOSHUA SPRUNGER REUNION HELD The Joshua Sprunger family reunion was held Sunday at McCullough Park at Fort Wayne. The new president is Edward Stucky and the committee members are Mrs. Luster Rich and Mrs. Arlo Lehman. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Lehman and daughter Gretchen will be moving to Florida in the near future. BRIDE-ELECT OF NED BIXLER FETED WITH SHOWER Miss Jeanne King of Bascom, Ohio, bride-elect of Ned Bixler, was feted with a surprise bridal shower Friday evening. Miss Margaret Bixler and Mrs. Merlin Steiner were hostesses and the shower was held at the home of Mrs. Steiner. Games were played and the winners in turn gave the prizes to the honored guest. Green and pink streamers were used over the linen covered table on which the gifts were placed. Refreshments of angel food and sherbet layer cake, fancy mints, and coffee were served to the Mesdames Ermin, Tillman and George Bixler, John and Karl Hilty, Ralph Miller, John Steiner, Elmer Affolder, David Milholland, Chris Liechty, Ervin Felber, Frank Moser and the Misses Evelyn and Mildred Miller, Kathleen and Luanne Affolder, Janet Bixler and the guest of honor, Miss King.
