Bears Suffer First Defeat, Lose To Ossian Wells County Team Pins 5-2 Loss On Berne The Ossian Bears halted the Berne Bears* winning streak with a 5-2 win on the Ossian diamond' Friday afternoon. It was the first loss of the season for the Bears. Archbold, Ossian pitcher, held the Bears to four hits, while Ossian combed Smith and Inniger for eight hits. The Bears held a 2-0 lead going into the last of the fifth when Ossian scored four times. They scored another in the sixth inning. Baumgartner had two of Berne’s four hits, while Woodor had two for Ossian. Whether or not a playoff for the Eastern Wabash Valley conference will be held in case of a tie is not known. Berne still is in at least a tie for the top spot with one conference game to go, that against Monmouth here on Thursday. PHS totaled 20 points followed by Adams Central with 37 and Berne with 71. Steiner covered the two miles in 10:52, nosing out Panther harrier Mike LeMaster by two seconds. In third place was Bill McAbee who ran the first fialf mile in 2:10 and finished in 10:59; Dave Stookey was fourth in 11:04; Don Spencer was fifth in 11:05 and John Freeman sixth in 11:11. Rounding out the top 15 were Jerry Hirschey (AC), Loren Habegger (AC), Ronnie Shoemaker (P), Tom Ellsworth (P), Eli Schwartz (B), Jack Wulliman (AC).
