Emergency Landing Made By Airliner PLATTSBURGH AFB, N.Y (UPD—An Eastern Airlines Martin 404 airliner made an emergency belly-landing on a foamcovered runway at this Strategic Air Command base early today and all 36 persons aboard escaped serious injur. The plane developed landing gear trouble while on a flight northward from New-- York City to Massena, N.Y. The pilot discovered the trouble while attempting to make a landing at Burlington, Vt. Municipal Airport. Air Force officails here said the pilot passed over the operations tower several times and then decided on the “belly landing.” He circled the field for about 54 minutes to burn up his excess fuel. 'Air Force personnel spread a thick blanket of foam used to extinsuish oil fires over a 300-foot wide section of the runway for 4.500 feet. The pilot then set the two engined plane down in the middle. An Air Force spokesman who gave newsmen a running account of the emergency landing said that the plane slid amost 1,700 feet before it came to a halt. 2nd Lt. Dave Whalen, a base information officer, said sparks flew out from the plane as it slid along and a small fire broke out. This was quickly extingished. At least 200 Air Force person- . nel stood by to assist the crippled plane. Pasengers and crew members were taken to the base hospital and checked by Air Force doctors and an Eastern Airlines doctor. They said the , passengers and crew were in “good condition.” 41 s Two Motorists Fined On Traffic Charges Two motorists received $1 fines and cost charges in justice of the peace court Tuesday on charges of having no tail light, and the other for speeding, while a third case in mayor’s court on assault and battery was continued. Ted Palmer Anderson, 819 Bush, Decatur, paid the fine for having no tail light. He was arrested by city police Monday. Joe A. Greenlee, of Union City, paid the speeding fine. He was also arrested by city police Monday. Aurora Guereco, of 721 N. 11th street, had her case continued after being arrested by city police on ( a warrant for assault and battery. The charge was filed in mayor's court.' Select Color For New School Building A group of interested citizens met this morning with the Decatur school board. W. Guy Brown, superintendent of schools, and Carl Bradley, architect, to select the brick color for the new southeast school. Also present was Clarence Bultemeier, general contractor for the building. The three men, Norman Steury. Jim Cowens and Charles Arnold, have shown an interest and willingness to help and ask questions throughout the planning of the new building. Herb Banning and Jack Heller, school board members present, expressed their thanks to the men for their continued interest. Dr. James Burk, third member of the board, was out of town.
