Paint Job Depends On Preparation A good paint job is 80 per cent preparation, according to professional painters. Regardless of what type paint is used, the job will not , be satirfactory unless the surface' is properly prepared. All peeling, flaking or blistering paint should be scraped off, and then the area sanded smooth before a primer is applied. Use a calking compound to fill holes, joints and cracks. To mix paint thoroughly, pour the contents of the can into a clean galvanized steel pail. Then stir the pigment and pour the paint back into the can slowly, mixing it as you pour. For best results, use two steel pails for mixing since some of the paint may be spilled if the original can is used. By hanging the pail on the ladder with an easy-to-m ak e S-hook, hands can be kept free fbr painting. When stopping for a break, wrap the brush or roller in aluminum foil. Also put a piece of foil over the top of the pail to keep out bugs. Inexpensive disposable rollers ■ are now available for smaller jobs where you want to use the paint; roller only once and then throw it away. Adjustable Ladder An adjustable ladder leg that equalizes any uneven surface for the climber has appeared on the market.
