Sept. 10 Deadline For Reserve Rate When requesting a basic conservation reserve rate, farmers should bring along some necessary information, says James Garbo den, chairman of the county ASC committee. Farmers have until September 10 to request that a basic annual rate per acre be established for land offered under a 1960 program, although requests may be filed at the county agricultural stabilization and conservation office earlier. The county office has regular forms to be filled out when farmers apply for a basic rate. Information needed to complete the form includes a description of the acreage for which the basic rate is requested and the crop production history of the land. For each field, details will be needed as to the kind of crop and the yield per acre for the five-year period 1955 through 1959. After the basic conservation reesrve rate is established for a farm, the farmer will have an opportunity to file an application for a conservation reserve contract, Garboden continued. To be eligible for the basic rate declaration, Garboden reminded farmers, the land must have had a crop harvested from it or must have been in a regular rotation during 1959. In additon, tame hay land may be placed n the conservation reserve, if it has a stand of perennial grasses of legumes normally established by land preparation and seeding. Tame hay land must also have had hay or silage harvested from it in three of the four years 19561959. Farmers who have questions about the conservation reserve program may contact the county ASC office for more information. Play Camp Meeting Recording At Church The Rev. H. D. Rich, pastor of the Valley Wesleyan church, has announced the noted Fairmount Wesleyan camp meeting will be brought to the church via tape recording. One of these recordings will be played at Sunday evening services for the next few weeks. Rev. Rich also stated he would be glad to play these at the home of any “shut in” desiring. He may be contacted by writing him at rural route 6, Box 85, Decatur, or by caling Monroe 6-6165. niere is no charge for this service. Young Cyclist Dies When Struck By Car MUNCIE, Ind. (UPI)— Thomas Milton Kimball, 10, Parker, died at Ball Memorial Hospital Monday night of injuries received five hours earlier when he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle on a Randolph County road south of Parker. Raymond Buis, 22, Parker, driver of the car, told State Police he was driving at high speed when the boy swerved in front of his car. Officers said Buis’ car skidded 194 feet before hitting the bicycle and then rolled over, injuring Buis slightly. Five Showmanship Winners Make Trip The five Adams county livestock showmanship winners returned from their award trip to Quincy, 111., early this morning. Leaving Sunday morning, 19 area residents in all, left on the trip to the Moorman manufacturing company factory and research laboratories and farms. The five showmanship winners were Miss Sandy Strickler, beef; Rex King, swine; Steve Moses, dairy; David Singleton, sheep, and Don Wietfeldt, poultry. Accompanying them were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Brehm, Monroe; Mr. and Mrs. Leo King, Sr., route one; Larry 'Kreigh, feed dealer from near Ossian; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Moses, route three; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Steiner. Monroe, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Winteregg, Monroe, and Miss Barbara Fiechter, for the Decatur Daily Democrat. The tour is awarded to the 4-H showmanship winners. Begun in 1958 the tour is planned to be a yearly award. Urge Wheat Buyers To Learn Os Rules Wheat buyers have definite responsibilities in connection with the government production and price support programs on wheat, and should be familiar with the provisions of these programs for their own protection, according to James Garboden, chairman of the Adams county agricultural stabilization and conservation committee. Warehousemen are reminded that the marketing quota penalty for this year on “excess wheat" is 11.07 a bushel, and if there is a penalty due on any wheat purchased, the buyer will be liable for the total amount of penalty. The total crop produced on overplanted farms is subject to a lien until the marketing quota penalty is paid. Since the warehouseman . or buyer is responsible for the penalty if he purchases wheat which is subject to the lien, he should by all means have the producer present a wheat marketing certificate at the time the wheat is offered for sale. Penalties collected by buyers should be forwarded to the ASC county office for the county in which the wheat ' was produced.
