Former Vera Cruz Resident Is Dead Final rites will be conducted Sunday at 1 p. m. at the Apostolic Christian church near Vera Cruz for John Myer, 85, who died Wednesday in Gridley, 111.

Mr. Meyer had been In ill health for the past four years and had been critically ill the past two days. He died about 11:45 a. m. Wednesday at the home of his daughter, Anna, in Gridley. A former resident of Vera Cruz, Jie was born February 2d, 1874, in Hamburg, Germany. He and Mary Rudin were married March 2, 1900, in Cissna Park, 111. She died Oc-
tober 23, 1955. Mr. Meyer had resided in Gridley for the past eight years. He was a member of the Apostolic Christian church. The body will bo brought to the Goodwin funeral home in Bluffton after services at ID a. m. Friday in Gridley. Friends may call at the Bluffton funeral home after noon Saturday. The body will be taken to the church at 12:30 Sun-

Surviving are four daughters, Miss Anna Meyer, Gridley; Mrs. Ray Gerber, Bluffton; Mrs. Mark Wright, Zanesville, and Mias Margaret Meyer, Bluffton; two sons, Joe Meyer, Bluffton, and Amos Meyer, Gridley; six grandchildren
and three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Henry Meyer, Mononk, 111. A daughter and a sister preceded him in death. The National Science Foundation expects the nation's universities to receive 400 million dollars for research work this year, compared with 20 million dollars in 1940 and 225 million in 1950.
