Governor Long Rests From Campaign Tour WINNFIELD, La. (UPI) — A : tired looking Gov. Earl K. Long rested in his “little pea patch” toi day from the rigors of campaigning for re-election. The Louisiana governor, sleeping under covers in a fully-lighted bedroom of his tin-roofed farm retreat at Winnfield, got in the most sleep Sunday and Sunday night since his release from the last of three mental hospitals June 26. Dr. John T. Mosley, Long’s Winnfield physician, visited with 1 the governor early Sunday evening. Mosley joined Dr. Paul '■ Pratt, a psychiatrist who has not left Long’s side since his release from mental hospitals, but it was reported the visit was considered i only a “friendly visit,” and had nothing to do with the governor’s I heart condition. Four Persons Hurt As Home Destroyed OAKFORD, Ind. (UPI) — Four persons were injured when a leaking gas container caught fire and destroyed the Charles L. Miller home in this Howard County community during the weekend. Miller, his two sons, Robert, 4, and Ronald, 2, and Jeanie Brunk, 13, a neighbor girl, were treated for minor injuries. Litters Qualified : For Certification Word has been received from the ; swine evaluation station at Purdue by the county extension office that ’ Paul Yoder of Linn Grove has had ' two litters which qualified for certification. Certification standards are quite high and the litters quali- ’ fied on various characteristics. In the first litter, 14 were farI rowed and certified. The litter weighed 325 lbs. at 36 days of age. The live slaughter weight was 205 ■ lbs. at 143 days. The feed conversion was 3.25 lb. of feed per pound of gain. Some carcass measurements were 1.4 inches of fat back, L length 29.5 inches, 4.36 square inch loin eye, a 52.67% cut out value and a dressing percentage of ’ 68.78%. The adjusted live weight ’ at 180 days was 259 pounds. The second litter statistics were the live slaughter weight was 200 ! lb. at 160 days. The feed conversion 1 was 3.27 lb. of feed per pound of t gain. Carcass measurements were 1.3 inches of fat back, length 29.8, 4.6 loin eye, a 51.91% cut out value and a dressing percentage of 68%. > TMS7W7 Kirkland Kut-Ups When the Kirkland Kut-Ups met recently at Pine Lake, Karen Cau- ■ ble, president, was in charge of the meeting. Besides the business meeting, there was a picnic lunch, and swimming took up the rest of the afternoon. Wanda Adler and Miriam Yager led the pledges, and Joan Brown led the group singing. The group also discussed the float forth e4-H fair and a trip to Pokagon state park. Arleen Borne gave the health and safetly lesson. The next meeting for the Kut-Ups will be July 14, at 7 p.m., at the home of their .leader, Mrs. Loris Steury. Peppy Gals Hie Decatur Peppy Gals met Thursday afternoon, Mrs. Chronister in charge.
