Soya Co. Officials Al Canadian Meet Harold W. McMillen, Central Soya board chairman, and Jake L. Krider, vice president, are attending sessions of the annual convention of the Canadian feed manufactures association. In a speech prepared for presentation at the convention Friday, Krider reviewed public relations programs of the feed industry in the United States, and pointed out the responsibility of both individual campany members and the American feed manufacturers association (A.F.M.A.) for these programs. He told the Canadian feed manufacturers that,” ... We as citizens and businessmen must accept our share of responsibility on a positive platform regarding basic issues vital to the health of .pur companies and our industries.”. He called attention to the Central Soya company's efforts to reach the opinion molders and leaders in agriculture, industry and government. ”They had to be told the true foodpower story,” Krider said, ‘‘which includes: (a) why meat, milk and eggs are important to our standard of living; (b) how much progress had been made in the production of these preferred protein foods; (c) where the industries, crops and products that serve animal agriculture fit into the picture; (d) what contribution freedom of enterprise makes to our production-distribu-tion system; and (e) finally. . .how vital it is both progress in production and freedom of enterprise we are to feed adequately our future population. Krider also cited a few examples of A.F.M.A.’s leadership in carrying out public relations programs, such as: (a) Taking a stand on legislative matters affecting the industry; (b) Recognizing three outstanding college nutrition research scientists each year under the nutnition council awards program of A.F.M.A.; and (c) The work of the A.F.M.A. feed survey committee,—made Up of agricultural college and experiment station piembers—which each year develops a report on estimated .feed use and supplies during the current feeding year for distribution and use by the feed industry and others.
