Junior Legion Team Winner By 40 Score 2 Decatur’s Junior American Legion baseball team evened its season’s mark Wednesday in a night game at Worthman Field, shutting out Huntington, 4-0, on a neat sixhitter by Harley Wolfe. Huntington had previously given the local squad its first setback in a game on its home field. But yesterday’s difference proved to be the big, fast-balling, righthander Wolfe, who missed the opener at Huntington. Wolfe struck out 10 and walked only two and was in trouble only in the sixth inning, when the Vikings loaded the bases on three hits with two outs. Wolfe reared back and .threw three straight “smokes” past third baseman Dave Dillon, who was the batting hero of the previous game. . Bob Walters got Decatur started on the right foot in the first inning, ' drilling a single down the third base line. Grabill reached second on a two-base error by Dillon, setting the stage for Dennis Ahr’s two-run smash to right center. Bin Fahrnow then settled down and struck out the side. Steve Marbach and Steve Blythe singled to open the second, whileWalters walked to fill the bases with one out. Grabill sent a sacrifice fly to left for the third Decatur marker. The fourth and final counter was registered in the fourth on Jim Gay’s double and a fun-scoring single by Blythe. Fahrnow again struck out the side after i letting the gates open. I Fahrnow out-did Wolfe, statistically, getting 11 by strikes and WalkI ing only one, but had difficulty I getting the first batter in every inning but the third. 'An earlier high school game, scheduled against Adams Central for Bill McColly’s high school team was washed out, but will be played today at the Greyhound diamond at 5:30 p.m.. weather allowing. Orioles Only Half Game Out Os First Place United Press International Paul Richards is making Oscar of look like small pottages,' considering the fantastic results he’s getting by mixing a pinch of chicken salad with some old left-overs. And if you think that dish is for the birds, better have a look at the American League standings. They show Baltimore’s onrushing Orioles only a half-game out of first place and with more victories than any other team in the league. Not bad for a ball club tha.t is last in the league in hitting, next-to-last in fielding and loaded down with such castoffs as Skinny Brown. Walt Dropo, Billy Loes and Jim Finigan. Castoffs in Important Roles All of them played important roles in Baltimore’s 7-4 victory over Cleveland Wednesday night and today another discard, Hoyt Wilhelm, gets a chance to boost the Orioles into first place when he goes against the Indians. The Orioles broke a 4-4 tie when they came up with three runs in the ninth. Gus Triandos, Dropo — playing his first game after coming from Cincinnati — and Gardner and Bob Nieman each homered. Brown, who posted his fifth victory, held the Tribe to five hits. The Athletics downed the Yankees, 4-3; the Senators whipped the White Sox. 4-2, and the Red Sox beat the Tigers, 4-2, in other AL games. . . - Milwaukee retained its two game lead in the National League with a 4-0 win over St. Louis in a game cut to seven innings because of rain; San Francisco nipped Pittsburgh, 4-3; Los Angeles made it three in a row over Philadelphia, 9-6, and Cincinnati blanked Chicago, 5-0.

Cross-Walk Lines Added Here Today The state highway department paint crews, under the direction of John Strossner, foreman, added new cross-walk lines at various Intersections this morning to promote a statewide safety campaign. . City and sheriff’s polfbe assisted by re-routing traffic between Madison and Monroe streets on Second street during the hours of 9 to 10 a.m. The remaining cross-walks will be painted one-half at a time, requiring no re-routing. The purpose of the Second street blockade was to alleviate the congestion on the usually heavily traveled block.
