Ford, Mantle Pace Yanks To Win Over A's By MILTON RICHMAN Urtited Press International Casey's finally making his move — just as he said he would —and it must delight the old boy that he even called the turn on the two men who woud help him do the moving. The two, of course, are Mickey Mantle and Whitey Ford. ‘‘We’ll be all right,” Casey Stengel told the worried Yankee brass when the club hit rock-bot-tom a month ago. “We’ll be all right as soon as Mantle starts hitting again and I can get Ford to go nine.” So it certainly comes as no surprise to Stengel that his Yankees -are back in the first division again, only two games away from the top, now that Mantle and Ford are beginning to click again. Mantle cracked out his third homer in two days Tuesday night and, Ford turned in a nifty fivehitter to pace the Yanks to a 10-2 victory over the Athletics. White Sox Climb The White Sox climbed to within a gaq?e\of first place with a 4-1 victory over the Senators; the OriCtes moved to within a game-and-a-half of the top by beating the league-leading Indians, 5-1, and the Red Sox knocked the Tigers out of the first division with a 10-4 win.

All-Stars Play Al Fort Wayne Tonight FORT WAYNE, Ind. (UPD— Something new in summer-time Indiana high school basketball—a North-South series—opens at the Coliseum tonight. It’s all for charity, as is the annual Indiana-Kentucky series, with the return scrap booked for the Memorial Stadium at Evansville Saturday. But that won’t be the end qf mid-summer hardwood exhibitions in Hoosierland. The top players from the North and South squads will be molded into one unit to take on an Ohio All-Star team here next Wednesday. U.S. 40 was used as the demarcation line for make-up of the North-South teams. Each unit consists of 11 players. John Harrawood, a former Evansville hardwood star, pilots the South. Murray Mendenhall Jr., masterminds the upstaters, who “probably have the No. 1 allaround performer in Tom Bolyard of Fort Wayne South's 1958 state prep titlists. The North also includes such other fine performers as Roger Thurston of Kokomo, Dave Hofheinz of Muncie Central, Scotty Ward of Valparaiso, Dave Porter of Noblesville! Bill Burget of Crawfordsville, Sam Kreigh of Lafayette Central, Bill Boyd of Fort Wayne Central, and 6-7 Larry Arrick, their tallest player from Converse. Frank Landrey of Vincennes and Embra Whitfield of New Albany, two Southern Conference hotshots, will lead the south. Whitfield is remembered for gunning the Bulldogs into the state tourney finals last March. Other downstate stars include Norm Beasley of Odon, Joe Decker of Princeton, Jerry Browning of Evansville Mater Dei, Larry Bemis of Martinsville, Pete Easley of Tell City, and Jom Combs of Washington. Harrawood has three players measuring 6-4. Beasley and Kreigh are the smallest at 5-9. Regardless of the outcome of the two games, avenging last year's 101-95 loss to Ohio remained the biggest issue. Word from the Buckeye state was that coach Paul Walker of Middletown has assembled another tall and talented outfit to go against hte Hoosiers, including four beanpoles who stand 6-6 or better.
