Officers Selected By Explorer Post Severin Schurger, Jr., was elected president of the Elks Explorer post Monday evening. Tom Sharp was elected vice preisdent; Ron August, secretarytreasurer; Mike Drake and Jimmy Newton, quartermasters; and Larry Macklin and Gary Coffee, cabinet representatives. The explorers made final arrangements during the business session for' their canoe trip and campout in Michigan the wdtkend of Independence Day. The scouts’ hot dog stand for the sidewalk jubilee July 7 will be enlarged this year. The group will sell hot dogs from a regular concession stand. The explorer scouts will meet to work on it Thursday night. Al Anderson is providing the lumber for the stand; Beavers Oil company, the decorations; Bob Workinger, the sign; Colonial Bakery, the hot <iog buns; Don Schmitt, the use of his store and supervision of the stand plus such necessary supplies as mustard, relishes, and wax paper. Cabinet representatives Macklin and Coffee began their duties Tuesday evening, representing the Elks post in one of the four meetings held each year for the south district representatives of the Anthony Wayne council. During these four meetings, the cabinet plans the year’s activities around the explorer scouts four-point program. On the social program, a dance is scheduled for September 19 at Fort Wayne. The group also discussed the possibility of moving the January operation deep freeze away from Pokagon park, possibly to Michigan. Indianapolis Hotel Is Damaged By Fire INDIANAPOLIS (UPD — Firemen studied the possibility of arson today in a fire" which damaged the Casablanca Hotel and brought 17 pieces of firefighting equipment on the run.’ Most guests in the hotel got out safely around midnight when the alarm was spread. But firemen had to rescue William Owens, 54, a paralyzed invalid, and his wife. Jessie, 50. Owens was treated at a hospital for smoke inhalation.
