Sinister Robber On Most Wanted List WASHINGTON (UPD— Walter Bernard O’Donnell, a sinister robber who preys on overweight women by doping them with “Mickey Finns,” was placed on the FBl's list of 10 most wanted criminals today. O'Donnell persuades his victims to take “knock out” pills in the guise of weight reducing powders, then robs them, the FBI said. He has victimized middle-aged women in nearly a score of cities from coast to coast. Several of them have been rendered seriously ill as a result of O’Donnell’s “v icio u s, sinister racket” and the drugs he uses are "potentially as deadly as a gun,” the FBI said. O’Donnell, who is now 57, began

Parker In Front For G.O.P. Nomination By EUGENE J. CADOU United Press International INDIANAPOLIS (UPD — Lt. Gov. Crawford F. Parker,is far in front for the 1960 Republican gubernatorial nomination today, regardless of the reported opposition of former Sen. William E. Jenner. < Jenner took himself out of the contest for governor last week in a letter to Parker. But there were thunders of silence in the letter about Parker’s'candidacy. The former senator has scores of almost fanatical followers over

the state. But he has neither the 811-tmportant state nor federal patronage. rtiere are Indications that Governor Handley will not use state jobs to block the lieutenant governor and may even muster their force to aid him. In fact, Handley told newgmen only two days ago he is for F9rker. “He's my candidate,” Handley said. "I don’t feel there will be any trouble with Bill Jenner as a result of my support of Parker ” Parker is a conservaitve’s conception of Mr. Republican. Throughout a long political career, he has been connected with the right wing of the GOP, reaching the peak of conservatism by staking his future on the “right to work” law wheih was nearly repealed in the 1959 General Assem-
bly. “Through the Chairs” Also, Parker has “gone through the’ chairs’* of the Republican party, from precinct committeeman upwards. He has served as Henry County clerk, GOP member of the Indiana Public Service Commission, and secretary of state. He is no Johnny-come-lately in party affairs, as was former Gov. George N. Craig. Parker’s normal duties as lieutenant governor take him into all parts of the state, thereby enabling him to campaign day after day on state time and transportation. Three persons have ‘taken this smooth road to the governor’s chair from the office of lieutenant governor—M. Clifford Townsend and Henry F. Schricker, Demo-
crats, and Handley. Even now, however, stop-Parker movements are being considered by GOP opponents d! the statehouse' machine. The big question is whether a party leader of sufficient stature can be induced to run for governor. Bray Is Weakening Jenner has bowed out, at least for the present. Rep. William G. Bray, Martinsville, shows signs of remaining in Congress until he becomes eligible for the maximum congressional pension instead of taking a chance for governor. Sen. D. Russell Bontrager, Elkhart, seems equally reluctant. The Democratic landslide of 1958 is a big deterrent to all except Parker, according to all indications. The lead of more than ' 240,000 - votes rolled up by Sen.
Vance Hartke over Handley for senator last fall has sent a chill up and down the spines of most ambitious Republicans. With the comeback of prosperity, big spending in Washington and the Lake County pinball graft, there may be better times for the Republicans. A mighty straw in the wind wll be the' results of the municipal elections in November. Unless the GOP prevails substantially, Parker ma? be the only gubernatorial candidate with strength in his party. Madagascar, the fourth largest island in the world, covers 227,736' square miles and is larger than the 12 states from Maine to Virginia.
