More Gas Heal For Northwest Division M. J. Pryor, NIPSCO’s district manager in Decatur, said that the release this morning of gas space heating permits for 45,000 customers does not apply to Decatur. The release does not apply to the Fort Wayne area, which is served by the Fort Wayne gas distribution system, in turn supplied by the Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Company. The gas company does have an agreement with Panhandle for 10% million cubic feet more per day, when the petition now pending before the federal power commission to re-allocate gas sales among their distribution customers becomes effective. “We are doing everything in our power to obtain additional supplies of gas for the people of the Fort Wayne area,” Pryor said, “and are hopeful that this supply will be available at an early date.” The 25,000_ residents in northeastern Indiana who will now receive gas space heating permits are those who receive gas from the Midwestern Gas Transmission Company of Houston, Texas. The communities are: Hammond, Munster, Highland, East Chicago. Whiting, Crown Point, Gary, Hobart, Michigan City, La Porte, Valparaiso, South Bend, Mishawaka, Elkhart, Goshen, Plymouth, Rochester, Warsaw, Peru, Logansport, and Wabash. NIPSCO’s prompt filing of a petition with the public service commission of Indiana to bring gas home heating to the thousands of Indiana residents seeking to enjoy the convenience and economy of gas, followed the federal power commission’s approval on May 12, 1959, of a petition by the Midwestern Gas Transmission company to provide the Northern Indiana Public Service company: the Peoples Gas Light & Coke company of Chicago: and the Northern Illinois Gas company, Aurora, 111., with 360 •million cubic feet of gas per day through the building of a 350-mile, 30-inch gas transmission pipeline from Portland Tennessee, to Joliet, Illinois. NIPSCO’s share of this new gas supply is 200 million cub feet per day, to be delivered to its northwest gas distribution system in three primary increments; about 115 million cubic feet per day the first year: 145 million cubic feet per day the second year; and up to 200 million cubic feet per day the third year, and continuing thereafter. The utility has a 20-year contract with Midwestern. "We have been assured,” Mitchell said, “that the initial part of this additional gas supply will be available to us in time for the 1959-60 heating season.” There were 68,299,408 motor vehicles registered in the nation in 1958. including 270.163 buses and 11,158,561 trucks. The overall figure represented a rise of 1,168,337 for fee year.

ADENAUER Continued from page one ship when Adenauer changed his mind last week about running for president this year and announced he would stay on as chancellor until his term runs out in 1961. Erhard, considered most likely to succeed Adenauer, rushed back from the United States fighting mad. Adenauer had made the decision without consulting him and announced it while Erhard was out of the country. . Further, Erhard was told that Adenauer was accusing him of laying claim to the chancellor’s job and that the economics minsiter was shaky on West Germany’s foreign policy and European integration. Adenauer told the party—and Erhard—that he never had questioned the faith of the economics minister and neyer meant to disqualify him as possible successor to the chancellorship. The world’s largest salt water pier is Pier 91 in Seattle, Wash, It could moor two ships the size of the Queen Mary on either side and still have more than a city block left over. ' I
