some proof of your age with you—your birth or baptismal certificate is best, but an old insurance policy, family Bible or other old documents may be used. 2. Q—Can all widows past 62 who remarry draw benefits immediate- ' ly on their present husband’s account if he is getting old age insurance benefits? A—No. The widow must have been getting benefits the month before marriage to immediately draw benefits on the present husband’s account. Otherwise, there is a 3 year period to qualify for wife’s benefits. 3. Q—Has the $1,200 annual earnings amount been increased under the 1958 amendments to the social security law? A—No. However, beginning January 1959, if your earnings are more than $1,200 for a year, you can receive benefits for any month in which you neither work in selfemployment nor earn wages of more than SIOO. 4. Q—My 2 minor children are receiving payments because I get disability benefits. My wife, who has been in a mental hospital since 1956, is not entitled to payments on my account. Why? A—She is not entitled to behefits because she does not have the children in her care. If and when she returns home to care for the children and they are entitled- to payments, she may qualify for benefits. 5. Q—My widow’s benefits were stopped because I married in July 1958. Under the new law I am eligible for payments on my present husband’s account because he gets old age insurance benefits. As yet I have not received any checks. Why? A—To get payments you must file a new application with your local social security office. 6. Q—Will my social security paytnents be reduced if my earnings after I apply for benefits are less? A—No. Lower earnings after you apply for benefits will not reducp the amount of your benefits. 7. Q—Have the 1958 amendments changed the status of social security coverage for landlords who receive rental income from their farms? A—There has been no change in social security coverage for farm rental income since the 1956 amendments. 8. Q—Can a disabled child past 18 draw on the account of his parent who is getting social security disability payments? A—ls the child was disabled before 18 and is dependent on his parent, he may be eligible for benefits. Inquire at your social security office. 9- Q —On what basis were social security benefits increased effective with 4959? A—lt was based on rise in living costs from September 1954 (when the last benefit increase was effective) through June 1958.
