Deny Any Violence , By Governor Long i GALVESTON. Tex. (UPI)-Gw. ] Earl K. Long °f Louisiana fought 5 plans, to put him in a mental hospital so hard his family had to j have him knocked out, It was re- , ported today. But authorities at John Sealy , Hospital in Galveston, where the { colorful chief executive of the \ Bayous was flown secretly Satur- . day, denied reports Long has been violent since his arrival. . Dr. John Truslow, administra- • tor at the hospital, said the 63- • year-old Long was “stubbornly resisting attempts to give him psychiatric treatment.” He said a diagnosis might be completed by Wednesday. Governor Raised “Ned” ( At Baton Rouge, where Lt. Gov. j Letter Frazar has taken over as j governor during Long’s absence, ( a source close to the administra- . tion told United Press Intematoin- ; al Long “raised holy ned” about the decision to take him to Texas for psychiatric treatment. “They hw| to have him knocked out and wneel him to the plane ' unconscious.” the source said. “He thought it was a plot by his : political enemies to get him out . of the way. Dr. Truslow told newsmen late ’ Monday “Gov. Long is upset in . his mind. Members of his family ! are attempting to persuade him to accept psychiatric treatment, but he is resisting. We don’t know why he is resisting.” But Dr. Truslow said "there has been no violence.” A Galveston newspaper reported Long underwent two violent outbursts and has been guarded by a pair of husky male nurses. Spent Restless Night Dr. Truslow confirmed the governor had male nurses, but said it was because Long “spent a very restless night.” “It was a precaution because of the prominence of the* patient," he said. “We are taking every possible precaution in this case ” ’ The doctor said the staff at , John Sealy .is making every es- ; fort to diagnose the governor's ' illness as soon as possible. “We know the eyes of the country are on us,” he said. “Things are awfully hard to predict, but I think it will be a day or so before we can come up with a diagnosis and recommendation.” Officials of the Long administration in Baton Rouge have declined to comment on the governor’s illness. But it was learned that the decision to put him in a hospital for treatment was made by his wife, sister and other members of his famfly. South Bend Motorist Accused Os Homicide SOUTH BEND, Ind. Arnold Hobbs Case Up To Jury Today ') FORT WAYNE, Ind. (UPD— Arnold G. Hobbs, small-town “financier” and accused embezzler, celebrated the 33rd anniversary of his birth Monday by testifying in his own behalf during his embezzlement trial here. The defense rested its case after Hobbs spent more than four hours on the witness stand to answer a charge that he embezzled $1,600 from the Noble County Credit Union, one of 21 indictments against him. Hobbs’ testimony came about a day earlier than was expected. Allen Circuit Judge William H. Schannen said he expects the case to go to the all-male jury this afternoon. The portly “wonder-boy testified in his own behalf for about two hours, and said the money he is accused of embezzling actually represented legal loans to his business firms. But Noble County Prosecutor Louis Ketcham put Hobbs through two hours of intensive cross-exam-ination concerning the apparent discrepency between checks loaned to Hobbs’ businesses and the amount - which eventually appeared on the books. To many of Ketcham's questions, Hobbs answered simply, “I don’t remember.” Defense Attorney Ralph Probst interrupted the questioning several times with objections and once asked for a mistrial because of the “conduct of the prosecutor.” The mistrial motion was overruled, however. The cross-examinAtion became rather heated at one point when Hobbs asked Ketcham if he “might say something.” “You can only answer questions that I ask you,” Ketcham shot back. Hobbs said he started working for the credit union at SSO a week and was making $l3O a week in 1957. He said his 12 businesses are worth $1,718,000, but an appraiser testified that the total doesn't include mortgages of liens on equipment.

Jack, Wayne and Kenneth, who farm several hundred acres north of Decatur, have recently purchased and erected two 20 by 50 foot glasslined steel silos which fill from the top but feed from ths bottom. The new silos will be used to feed 300 to 400 steers from 150 feet of feed bunk at one time in 15 minutes. They will begin filling the new silos in another week or so. The silos come in five-foot sheets, and are jacked up from . the ground level after package delivery. Called Harvestore, and . made by the /f. O. Smith corporat tion, the silos can be filled while . feeding from the bottom. They r are usable the year around, and - are oxygen free in use, providing sealed storage with controlled fer- ’ mentation, preventing spoilage in i correct use.
