Motorist Is Fined On Speeding Charge A traffic violation, concerning a speeding charge, was heard in mayor’s court this morning with the offender assessed a fine upon a plea of guilty. Another case set for today was continued until next week. Truman Gattshall, of Fort Wayne, paid a fine of $19.75 in court today for driving 45 miles per hour on 13th street Sunday. Gattshall was arrested by the state police during the morning for the speeding violation. Donald G. Christner, 22, Decatur, was scheduled to appear today for disobeying a stop sign at U. S. 27 and county road 35 May 19. The case was re-set for Monday morning at 9 o’clock. MEMORIAL DAY Conti hued from page one importance of the service given by those who died in America’s wars, fighting to preserve the American way of life. He called for a renewed dedication to law and order, the symbols of what brave veterans have died for. Following the address, the Rev. O. C. Busse, retired pastor of the St. Paul’s Lutheran church, placed a wreath on the green in memory of the unknown dead of all wars. This was the first Memorial Day since 1915 that Rev. Busse has not accepted a speaktag ongagement The combined American Legion and VFW firing squads then fired a salute to the dead, and Bugler Bill Jacobs sounded taps. Following this, the Adams Central marching band played the “Star Spangled Banner." Chaplain Pacha closed the ceremony with a prayer of benediction. Four Organizations Only incident to mar the twohour ceremony was the fainting of Chet Martz, of Danville, 111., son of Harry Martz, who had driven nearly all night to attend the program. Martz was treated and released. He apparently suffered from heat exhaustion. . z Those who took part in the program at the peace monument -were the commanders of the various veterans groups, including Kling, VFW; Robert G. Smith, American Legion; Robert August, Disabled American Veterans; and Harry Martz, Veterans of World War I. Few in the audience noted that the flag flying directly behind the group at the monument was the new 49-star flag, which will be official on July 4. The flag was presented to the county recently by the American Legion; at the same time one was presented to the Adams county memorial hospital. The 49-star flag is also flying at the Legion home.
