Seven persons, including a 6-year-old girl, were known dead. Nine to 11 persons were missing. More than 50, mostly school children, were injured. The injured children were at a grade school near the factory. Witnesses said the blast shook the area “like a large earthquake.” It shattered windows in more, than 200 houses. Many of the injured were cut by flying glass. Ironically, the factory had been ordered to move away from the school area for safety’s sake and the owner had filed the necessary moving papers with the city. The school is just across a small river from the factory. The factory was reported engaged in producing a special type of fireworks, involving a complicated production technique, for shipment to the United States. However, cause of the blast was not determined immediately. NOTICE OF ADMINISTRATION F.Ktatc No. 5450 In the Adams Circuit Court of Adams County, Indiana, Notice ia hereby given that Richard C. You’ll find your answer in this column, which is published each Saturday.) 1. q_ i want to apply for my social security and understand I may lose benefits by not filing now. However, I just got a record of my age by obtaining a copy of my marriage record. I was married in 1910 and have to wait to get my delayed birth certificate set up in court. Can I file before I get that done? A—You should not delay but file at once. Bring your marriage record with you. It may be satisfactory proof of your age. It not, the Social Security Office will advise you what you can use to prove your age. 2. Q—l am disabled and had my earnings record frozen last June and was notified that it was approved. I understand that I can now get disability benefits since I’m now 50. Should I contact my social security office again? A—Yes, you should. They will assist you in filing your claim for monthly payments for yourself and any dependent family members. I 3. Q—l filed my application for benefits when I was 62 and my benefits were reduced. However, my neighbor was only 62 when her husband died and her amount was not reduced. Why was mine handled differently?
