William Granter, 47, Griffith, was killed early Sunday when struck by a car while walking on U.S. 6 near Gary. Thomas W. Marshall, 60, Gary, was killed Saturday when his car was struck by a Grand Trunk Western passenger train near his home as he drove to work. Mrs. Esther Wilson, 24, South Bend, was killed when her small .foreign car skidded on U.S. 31 near Crothersville and collided jiyith another car. Allan Baker, 18, tlartford City* was killed when a car in which he rode skidded off Ind. 22 near Pennville in Jay county and smashed into a pole. Baker, a high school senior, died on the eve of his graduation * baccalaureate. Two fellow members of his class were injured. Cary W. Endicott, 38, Arcadia, was injured fatally when his car struck a culvert near Thorntown Sunday afternoon. He died about five hours later in an Indianapolis hospital.

Two Accidents Are , Reported In City i The city police department re- ] ported today that two accidents occurred in the city over the week- j end causing about $220 damage to ( the, vehicles involved. One driver ; was arrested for reckless driving ; as a result of the investigation of a i mishap that occurred Sunday. i David A. Gage, 17, of Monroe, paid a fine of $19.75 in city court i this morning for reckless driving I filed by the city police Sunday < afternoon. Gage was arrested when the auto he was driving struck a parked auto oiyned by Hector T. Serna, 21, of Decatur. Gage was headed south on Schir- < myer street at a high rate of j speed, lost control of the vehicle, j and skidded 170 feet before striking | the Serna vehicle. j Gage and a passenger, Mary ] Bassett, 15, of Decatur, were i thrown from the vehicle onto the 1 pavement just before the two autos collided. Two Candidates File Account Os Expenses Two itemized statements of expenses incurred by nomination seekers in the May 5 primary election were filed with the clerk of the Adams circuit court over theweekend. Mary Morgan, first Decatur woman to seek nomination for mayor, filed a statement showing $54.63 in expenses during the election campaign. Lawrence Kohne. councilman 3rd. district, filed a statement showing no expense. Candidates for the primary election have until June 4 to file their reports with the clerk, who in turn will issue a receipt showing the filing of the statements. Young Boy Is Killed In Foil From Horse MUNCIE, Ind. (UPD — Phillip White, 23, Muncie, died today in Ball Hospital during surgery after he was wounded by a rifle bullet in the home of a friend Saturday. 'Doctors at first believed the wound in White's right shoulder was relatively minor. Authorities said he was shot by a weapon held by Robert Fletcher, 34. White gave a statement to police exonerating Fletcher of criminal guilt. Both men and two others present at the time of the shooting said Fletcher was showing he gun to the .others and pulled the trigger a second time thinking the gun was empty, after it failed to discharge the first time he pulled the trigger. Funnel Clouds Swirl Over North Dakota United Press International Funnel clouds swirled over eastern* North Dakota Sunday night to spearhead a storm sweeping the northern Midwest. There were unconfirmed reports of tornadoes touching down in open country, but no damage was reported. Thunderstorms accompanied by winds around 50 miles per hour battered parts of North Dakota and western Minnesota Monday morning. Rainfall amounts, however, were generally light. Scattered thundershowers occurred over much of the rest of the nation Sunday night and early Monday, with the heaviest amounts .84-inch at Montgomery, Ala., and .47 at Augusta, Ga. The only area of fair skies expected today will be in the East from the Carolinas north into Maine. Elsewhere, skies were to be partly cloudy to cloudy. Scattered thundershowers were expected to continue across the country. Cooler weather was predicted from Montana .to northern Minnesota, while warmer weather was expected in the Ohio Valley, the middle Atlantic region, the Mississippi Valley, the upper Great Lakes and Idaho. Thefts Reported To Police Department Two thefts reported over the weekend by local residents are being investigated by the city police department. Misses Jesse E. and Nelle E. Winnes, of 421 Jefferson street, reported to city police today that thieves stole a porch swing from the residence sometime during the night last evening. The incident was reported at 8:30 a.m. today by the two ladies. A value of $lO. was listed (or the fourfoot wide swing. Helen Hanni, of 416 Patterson street, reported Sunday at 7 p.m. to city police that while her auto was parked at the community parking lot, thieves stole a portable spotlight, a side view mirrow, and a half tank of gas, from the vehicle. Police are investigating.
