Carryover Os Feed Grains Al Record WASHINGTON (UPD — The Agriculture Department today estimated the carryover of feed grains into the 1959-60 season will be a record 70 million tons despite the heaviest consumption by livestock in recent years. The prospective carryover, built up from record and new-record crops of corn, oats, barley, and sorghum grains in 1958, will be nearly 20 per cent above the record stocks of last year. The department said the carryover by grains would be: Corn, 1,600,000,000 bushels: oats, 575 million bushels; barley, 200 million bushels; and sorghum grains, 500 million bushels. Total consumption of corn during October-March was up 244 million bushels, br 12 per cent, from 1957-58. According to present indications, nearly 3,700,000 bushels will be consumed domestically or exported, compared with the record 1958 crop of 3,800,000,000 bbshels. In this event, the corn carryover added to present stocks, would be around 1,600,000,000 bushels, up 130 million bushels from Oct. 1, 1958. The department noted that feed grain prices, reflecting heavy demand and still generally favorable returns from livestock feeding, have advanced more than seasonally since last fall. Heavy exports of feed grains under the payment-in-kind program also have tended to strengthen prices by reducing comfnercial supplies on the free market.
